Frog Pond Early Learning Center, Alexandria

Frog Pond is a one-of-a-kind nature program located on two acres in the middle of the urban enclave that is Alexandria, VA. It is an inclusive program teaching and nurturing children with a nature-based, science rich curriculum. Frog Pond has just finished celebrating the Year of the Frog, as we honored our 15th Year Anniversary, through various events, county recognition, fundraisers, and connections with long-time supporters. 2015 is now, The Year of the Chicken, so stay tuned for many lessons to come from our mini-farm of animal friends. You are also welcome to join us for our 6th Annual Fall Festival to be held on October 24th from 10 am – 12 pm. The Frog Pond curriculum is enriched with multi-sensory experiences that tend to be messy and “hands on.” Research supports the importance of experiential learning for young children in neurological development, problem-solving ability, development of social skills and in children’s sense of general well-being. The correlated indigenous teachings would involve the child learning from direct contact and observation of Mother Earth and her creatures. Each creature has special teachings or “Medicines” from which we learn. beeWe especially enjoy the teachings of Bev Bos for curriculum models. The correlated indigenous wisdom teachings are in the studyand honoring of the sacred Elements of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air. You will notice that our children are encouraged to play with dirt, sand and other solids; water and other liquids; air and wind; and light and heat (through cooking, etc.) and through experiencing the sight, smell and warmth of our outdoor fires. We care about your kids, AND the environment! We act in integrity with our philosophy of caring for our bodies and the earth by buying earth friendly products and acting in earth friendly ways. We provide quality fresh food: organic milk, fresh fruit and whole grain snacks, and fresh made meals without dyes, preservatives, hormones.
