Welcome to Centennial Early Learning Playhouse, my nurturing daycare and preschool in Ellicott City, MD! I have been a certified teacher for 17 years in elementary public schools and I am a certified teacher in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and Special Education. For the last 9 years, I was able to pursue my passion - focusing on early childhood education by being a preschool teacher.
I created a safe learning environment shaped around the child’s needs. I created my learning center to support children’s social-emotional, cognitive, and physical growth, as well as develop a relationship with children and families in the early childhood classroom. This past year I was able to pursue another goal of mine: opening my own daycare and early learning center.
I’m certified for PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) and SEFEL (Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning) which are frameworks that promote the social and emotional development and school readiness of young children from 6 months through the age of 12. I also hold a Master's Degree in Political Science and I’m CPR & First-aid certified.
Teaching young children and nurturing them is my main commitment in life. Young children are a clean slate, it’s my responsibility to write and draw in their mind, to help nourish their imagination and growth. They will be able to see this world with color and clarity. At my daycare, I maintain a positive and active environment. When mistakes are made, I teach and correct with love and care. Children's job is to make a mistake and my greater responsibility is to correct them.
I believe kids cry for many reasons, my job is to understand the reason, calmly. Every behavior tells a story. Children at this age learn from imitation before I see my students I take time to structure myself. My priority is to build your child’s trust in me. I also send home a journal with each student that lists the child’s activities and behaviors for the day to better monitor progress.
I follow the Frog Street curriculum, Healthy Beginnings curriculum (Supporting Development and Learning from Birth through Three Years of Age) a well as Howard County Public Schools for older children. My program covers the Maryland Pedagogy Guide domains: receptive/ expressive, math, science, writing and personal/social skills, and physical. Children will develop letter recognition, shapes, colors, counting, and comprehension, fine motor, physical and occupational skills.
The children interact with each other with positive manner by using their gentle actions and soft tones that coordinate with their level. Greater independence is established with these skills: expressing their needs and wants, responding to ‘wh’ questions, following a 2-3 part simple and noble directions.
When you join my facility, I ask parents to set short term and long term goals for their children. Parents and I work together as a team to build the child's foundation. I believe in a healthy learning environment and also incorporate yoga, stretching, and mindfulness into my program.
My facility is open from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. I provide full-time and part-time care for infants as young as 12 months, as well as toddlers and preschoolers up to 5 years old. I am also open during Saturdays if you need weekend child care between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm (please send an email to ask about additional tuition for weekend care.) Before and after school care are also available for school-age kids up to 12 years old.
I offer healthy snack options, but parents are responsible for their child’s lunch (however if you want, I can serve this meal for a small additional fee). I also run peanut and tree-nut environment to avoid any possible allergies.
