International Children's House in Columbia, MD was founded in 2017 as a Montessori School. Their approach to education is based on the philosophy and methods of Maria Montessori, the first Italian female physician who founded the first Montessori school in Rome in 1907. Dr. Montessori believed that the goal of the educational process was to cultivate a child's natural desire to learn.
Philosophy:
International Children's House strives to help each child develop independence, self-direction, self-acceptance, feelings of membership and responsibility in a social group. They also work to build children's interest and joy in learning and living through the different areas of knowledge through their Montessori and S.T.E.A.M. program.
Curriculum:
International Children's House provides activities that promote social, emotional, and intellectual development with programs such as Spanish, Music, Yoga, Montessori Curriculum, and S.T.E.A.M (which is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics).
Parents are welcome and encouraged to be an active part of their child's education. We invite them to observe in the classroom, join us on exploratory field trips, help us organize school events or fundraisers, and connect with each other informally, creating a network that links the classroom to the community, and in turn, to the world.
