Our Impressions

St. Philip Early Childhood Center is recommended for parents seeking an academically focused program, taking place in a Catholic-based environment. The center introduces the children to activities in a Catholic environment, and uses a play-based philosophy by adding early learning skills to their 'learning through play' curriculum. The center offers an academically rigorous curriculum. The center also offers parents a number of attendance options: full day, part time and half day programs are available. The programs cover several important lessons including math & science, art & music, computers, physical education and foreign languages, though there is an added emphasis on the reading & writing program. Spanish lessons are taught weekly as a second language. St. Philip Early Childhood Center teaches Christian-based values, centering on good manners, respect and patience. This is an empowering and character building program, ensuring that the children in their care are developing both academically, and socially. The indoor facilities are perfect for facilitating a fun, yet learning focused environment. The walls are well decorated with art and learning materials, and there are plenty of toys, games and books for children of all ages. The facilities are impeccably clean, incredibly spacious, and very new and well kept. The center caters to the tech savvy generation by providing computer access, as well as iPads and tablets which are available for use by the children. There is a large play area and playground outside, where children enjoy at least 30 minutes of outdoor play per day. This is a large and spacious school, but it manages to maintain a cozy and charming environment. The center uses the website www.homeworknow.com to share photos, upcoming events, weekly activities and lesson plans.

School Environment

St. Philip Early Childhood Center (formerly Corpus Christi) has been running in the Falls Church community for over 25 years. The school is conveniently located right off of Highway 495, near Loehman's Shopping Plaza. The school is in a beautiful location, located right next to local parks and with Holmes Run River running nearby. This is a large, spacious school, with plenty of natural light and a large outdoor space with playground. The center can accommodate children with dietary needs/allergies, as well as children with special needs (depending on the specific need). Meals are served, and this school keeps a nut-free environment. Sibling and Military discounts are available.

Learning Environment

St. Philip Early Childhood Center offers a large Preschool and Elementary School with the capacity to hold 185 children. The student to teacher ratios are in line with state regulations, at 5:1 for the 2 year olds and 10:1 for children over 2. This school runs a highly academic program in a Catholic-based learning environment. The center offers many programs, including full time/part time child care, a preschool program, before and after school care, drop-in care, and summer camp. This school implements modern technology into their lesson plans, and have in-class access to computer, iPads and tablets. The curriculum is highly focused on preparing children for later grades by exposing them at an early age to subjects such as reading & writing, math & science, computers, art & music, physical education and foreign languages (Spanish). There is also a focus on extra curricular activities such as sports, cooking and music. The curriculum is structured, yet individualized slightly for each unique student. St. Philip Early Childhood Center strives to create an empowering and stimulating learning environment that is both skill-based, and development-based, ensuring that each child is discovering and exploring their own strengths and skills in a safe and encouraging environment.

Teachers

Teachers are educated, friendly and nurturing individuals. All teachers have, at minimum, a Bachelor's Degree, though some teachers have a Master's Degree. Teachers are well experienced, with an average of 10 years of child care experience amongst them. Parents receive weekly reports from teachers via email, updating them on their child's progress and summarizing the week's activities and events. All teachers are certified in First Aid, C.P.R and M.A.T. to ensure safety.

Safety

The center has an open door policy, allowing parent to stop by at any time to observe their children or speak with the staff. Background checks are ran on all new staff members, and reoccurring background checks are undergone every few years on current staff members. To ensure the utmost safety, the center has a gated entrance for secured access, as well as video cameras for added security. Any injuries that occur while children are in care are handled with a strict 3 step protocol whereby the parent is first called immediately, given a verbal notification at pick-up, and also given a written report describing the incident.
