What is the Montessori method? The Montessori method, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is a unique, scientific approach to education based on decades of observations of children and their inherent developmental needs from ages birth through adulthood. Dr. Montessori devoted her life to determining the needs of children within each stage of development and thoughtfully prepared environments designed to meet those needs. The results of her efforts produce joyful learners who have a solid foundation for creative and lifelong learning. Montessori classrooms are designed to foster independence through self-directed activities, hands on learning and collaborative, purposeful play.
