Los Angeles Family School (LAFS) is a progressive, non-profit, parent participatory school for children aged two to six. Established in 1972 in Silverlake, a diverse neighborhood ten minutes from downtown Los Angeles, LAFS is proud of their long and rich history. Our families represent a wide variety of socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. Our emergent curriculum focuses on developmentally appropriate practices and fosters independence and social competence by emphasizing problem solving, peaceful conflict resolution, and creativity. LAFS features four classrooms: Garden; Treehouse; Rainforest and Riverbed. Each classroom is colorful and welcoming, with multiple activities arranged so as to allow the children the freedom to explore and choose. Each also has its own outdoor area for year round outside play. Parent Community: At Los Angeles Family School we believe that pitching in and helping out creates a special community environment for our kids to grow, play, and learn in. For us parents the experience is both rewarding and a way to create lasting friendships. Parents are encouraged to participate in school life by volunteering in ways big and small, from organizing fundraisers to baking cookies for the Friday Bake Sale. Los Angeles Family School is a licensed child care center in Los Angeles, CA with the license issued by the L. A. Day Care-East (33). We are a medium-sized center.
