Sequoia Nursery School, Piedmont

We have about 32 children each year: half are first year students (3-4 year-olds,) and half are second year (4-5 year-olds.) The groups are mixed together at all times, and daily attendance is between 20 and 23 children.

We strive to provide a diverse environment. We welcome children and families of every race, color, religion, sexual orientation, national and ethnic origin.

Students start out by attending 3 days per week, and families may add additional days depending on the child’s readiness and space availability.

School Hours
Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 11:45 am, September through May.

Sequoia’s philosophy is: “Play is the child’s work.” Our emphasis is on self-directed play with hands-on experiences.

We work with monthly themes, exploring developmentally-appropriate topics that incorporate many activities, such as:

• Art and science projects
• Stories, songs, circle time
• Manipulative materials
• Blocks, puzzles, games
• Puppets and dramatic play
• Outdoor play in our spacious play area, which includes climbing structures, a playhouse, a sandbox, and tricycles
• Visits from groups such as the East Bay Vivarium, Oakland Zoo, Oakland firefighters, local musicians, and others reflecting the talents of our families
