Gap Community Child Development Center was established in 1982 and is a non-profit; tax exempt Center that is licensed by the District of Columbia. GAP provides a multi-cultural educational and development program for children ages six (6) weeks through four (4) years. At GAP we seek to motivate, to stimulate and to challenge our children, in a safe environment, so that learning is fun, exploring is exciting and developing new concepts is an adventure. The curriculum, Teaching Strategies/Creative Curriculum and the D.C. Standards for Early Childhood Education, assists teachers and staff to create structure, programs and activities that help our children positively develop the “whole self” through guided cognitive, emotional and physical growth. Administrators and Teachers at GAP strive to continue relevant training and education to insure that ‘Best Practices” in early childhood education are implemented, and adhered to throughout a child's tenure at GAP. Further, at GAP we celebrate the multi- cultured and multi- ethnic children and families that enrich the GAP family. This diversity creates a mosaic that reflects intelligence, dignity, respect and awareness of others, and of self. This awareness and respect for diversity is a core component of GAP's philosophy, and is integral to everything we do here at GAP. Whether a child is engaged in dramatic play, rolling over or taking those first steps, learning to count in English, French and/or Spanish; learning the alphabet; sorting manipulatives/completing puzzles, running or riding trikes on the playground, dancing to a Zumba beat, or exploring the sensations of day and night, hot and cold, and the visual power of an erupting volcano, teachers, staff and administration of GAP are a committed to the positive development and growth of your children.
