Living Savior Preschool
Living Savior's Mission is to know the love of Christ and serve God so that the Holy Spirit may work through us to bring others to Christ. The Vision for Living Savior is that it will use all its resources of people, ministries, and money to concentrate on reaching the unchurched of the community with the Good News of Jesus Christ, and by the power of the Holy Spirit to bring them to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and into the membership of Living Savior. God's Word Points Us to Jesus Christ The people who belong to Living Savior are people of the Bible. The Bible is our Sacred Scriptures, the Word of God. We treasure God's Word because it teaches us about eternal life through Jesus Christ. The Word is Gospel ("good news") because it assures us of God's love and faithfulness. God's Word inspires us to tell others and moves us to help people in need. A Mighty Fortress is Our God In the 16th century Martin Luther, a German monk, made his stand on the Word. Three principles undergird our beliefs: Scripture, Faith, and Grace. The Scripture is the only source of knowledge about God and his will for us. Grace tells us that as human beings we cannot earn God's love, forgiveness, or everlasting life. Only by faith in Jesus Christ do we receive forgiveness. Through faith in him we come into a relationship of peace with God. Communion Policy Everyone who is a baptized Christian, repents of sin, believes in the real presence of Christ's body and blood in, with, under the bread and wine of the Holy Communion is cordially invited to receive the Lord's Supper at Living Savior. To receive wine by individual cup, take a cup from the serving tray and wait for Pastor to say "The Blood of Christ", then return the cup to server that follows Pastor. To receive wine by the common cup (chalice), take the base & tilt to receive the amount you wish. If you wish to receive nonalcoholic white grape juice, there are individual cups in the center of the tray. If you wish to receive Gluten/wheat/corn and soya free communion wafers please speak to Pastor or an usher before the start of service. Our Purpose We believe that our congregation's life and mission includes assisting parents in the development of their children. Living Savior Preschool offers young children a Christian setting in which to grow, to learn, and to develop spiritually, physically, intellectually, and socially. We believe that Living Savior Preschool can expand the child's perception of God, of other people, and of the physical world in which God has placed us. We believe that our school offers preschool children one of the best opportunities for achieving the goals of Christian education outside of the home. It can help them develop healthy personalities, form values, and develop the conscience, feelings and attitudes which form the foundation for a positive self-image and good relationships. We believe that dedicated and committed Christian teachers can provide young children with numerous opportunities for growth and development. Our Objectives and Curriculum To nurture development of the whole child in ways which enable children to be more self-assured and to feel secure in the love of God. To teach simple Christian truths related to the child's experiences and level of development. To encourage the child in self-confidence, concern for others, cooperation in work and play, and a spirit of sharing. To increase the child's skills in listening, self-discipline, conversation, creative self-expression, independent work and play. LSP incorporates curriculum themes, content areas, the Creative Curriculum and Virginia Foundation Blocks for Early Learning, as a means for planning a developmentally appropriate Christian program. VA State Licensed and NAEYC Accredited Living Savior Preschool is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, and accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, a division of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation's largest organization of early childhood educators.

Main Street CDC

Welcome to Main Street Child Development Center (Main Street). ... Founded in 1973, Main Street provides 3,000 hours of nationally-accredited educational instruction and enrichment for at-risk children (ages 2 to 5) each year. Main Street is located in the former Green Acres Elementary School in Fairfax, Virginia. The center boasts a library, gymnasium, cafeteria, and 10-acre property on which our school is located. We serve the children of predominately low-income, working families in Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax. Childcare costs can easily exceed 30% of total family income. In Fairfax County, programs that both affordable and high-quality – as Main Street does – are scarce. Our affordable early childhood program allows the area's working parents to maintain employment and ensure the quality education of their children thus contributing to family stability and the expansion of the county's tax base. In the past 40 years, we have prepared over 5,000 children for success in kindergarten, closed the achievement gap between low-income students and their peers, and increased parent engagement in children's lives. Main Street welcomes all preschool children and families regardless of race, religion, culture, national origin, gender, family background or economic status. We have been accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) since 1995. Main Street Child Development Center is a partner of the Virginia Preschool Initiative. We maintain a 4-star rating from the Virginia Star Quality Initiative. Main Street Child Development Center participates in the Combined Federal (#31872) and the United Way (#8262) campaigns. Our Mission Main Street Child Development Center's mission is: To provide a quality accredited early childhood learning program for children ages 2-5 of limited income working families to grow and thrive in a nurturing environment. To enhance the quality of life for our diverse families through partnerships with community services agencies, and to provide educational opportunities and resources that strengthen literacy, parenting and the family. Main Street advocates the belief that each child is special and unique. We believe that there are no bad children, only challenging behaviors. Therefore, we try to instill within each child a positive self-image, in order for them to gain the confidence to try new things and meet life's challenges. The environment and curriculum at Main Street are designed to meet each child's social, cognitive, physical, emotional, and developmental needs. One goal we strive for each day is to provide the most caring type of atmosphere possible for each and every child, in order for them to grow as learners and individuals. Consequently, a child who needs an extra hug because Mom was late to work and the toast burned will be sure to get one. It is also our goal to promote creativity by offering a wide variety of activities that each child can experience in his or her own way. Our History In 1973, Main Street Child Development Center – then named the Vienna Day Care – was founded to provide affordable childcare for low-income families. Shortly thereafter the Fairfax County Department of Social Services (now the Office for Children) invited the Fairfax Organization of Christians and Jews United in Service, Inc. (FOCUS) to assume responsibility for running the Center. Following an invitation from Fairfax County to assume management and administration of operations, FOCUS established an oversight committee, which became organization's governing Board of Directors. The organization was rebranded as Main Street Child Development Center in 1989 to reflect its location in the heart of Fairfax and incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization soon after. Initially located in Fairfax Baptist Church, Main Street relocated to the former Green Acres Elementary School in 2002. In over 40 years of serving our region's disadvantaged children, Main Street has prepared over 5,000 children for success in kindergarten, closed the achievement gap between low-income students and their peers, and increased parent engagement in children's lives. Our Philosophy A child's early years provide a foundation for his or her emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development. As children grow, they go through a series of developmental stages, and each child learns and progresses at his or her own rate. At MSCDC, we believe that to help children develop to their fullest potential, their environment should encourage curiosity and provide opportunities to think creatively, make choices, and solve problems. We also believe that a positive self-image – enhanced by adults – gives children the confidence to meet life's challenges and enables them to succeed. Our Objectives Focus on the children's strengths Modify the environment to support children's needs Give children choices, consistency, and freedom to learn through play, and provide them with the opportunity to develop close relationships with others Serve as a means of support for both child and family, providing resources to assist each family

Fairfax Presbyterian Preschool

For 60 years, Fairfax Presbyterian Preschool (FPP) has provided... quality, early childhood education to children ages 2 ½ to 5 years. Founded as a mission of Fairfax Presbyterian Church, FPP welcomes children of all faiths, cultures, and abilities. FPP’s programs provide rich and varied learning opportunities which contribute to a child’s social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth. FPP is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Philosophy FPP’s philosophy is that children learn best through play. A child’s learning experiences are more enriching when the child is engaged in the process and when that process is fun. Through play, we can assess the individual, social, physical, and intellectual needs of each student in an environment that is as exciting as it is natural. Moreover, children learn an amazing amount when they are having fun! To further our philosophy, classroom curriculum include a mixture of structured and unstructured activities. Children have a daily circle time and arts and crafts activities, as well as unstructured play time in classroom centers and outside on the playground. Parent Participation The strong sense of community felt at FPP is fostered by our use of Parent Helpers in the classrooms. FPP is a parent participation preschool and relies on parents or designated caregivers to serve as volunteers in their children’s classrooms approximately 5 times throughout the school year. Serving as a Parent Helper gives parents the unique opportunity to be a part of their child’s school day. It also encourages parents to get to know their child’s teacher and classmates, as well as other preschool parents and FPP staff. Parents, grandparents, and nannies are all encouraged to serve as Parent Helpers. For safety and security, FPP conducts background checks and FBI fingerprinting on all adults working in the classrooms.
