Temple Sinai Nursery School

At Temple Sinai Nursery School (TSNS), we believe in nurturing the... individuality of each child. We see children as competent individuals who flourish in a joyful early childhood setting that encourages freedom of expression, focuses on building strong social-emotional skills, and promotes self-confidence through active hands-on learning. The philosophy of TSNS is based on the theories of Piaget, Vygotsky, Erikson, Gardner, the Bank Street Model and constructivist education. We are also inspired by the philosophy of the Reggio Emilia Schools in Italy. Our program is imbued with Jewish values that emphasize and promote kindness (g'milut chasadim), doing good deeds (mitzvot) and taking care of our world (tikkun olam). At TSNS, we believe that play is the primary vehicle through which learning progresses in the early years. Sensitivity to the needs of parents of young children always underpins our efforts. In addition to providing an excellent developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum, we take pride in being a part of the larger Temple Sinai community and helping parents foster a positive sense of Jewish identity in their children. A warm and welcoming parent community is at the heart of our program; parents are involved in the daily life of the program and take leadership roles at the Nursery School. The Parents Association plans and supports several family and school-wide events each year such as the Family Fall Holidays Festival, the annual Winter Family Concert, the school-wide Hanukkah Celebration and Model Seder, and the annual Spring Auction. NS GardenThis program maintains the highest standards of early childhood education. We have achieved accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and we are a Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning Commended School. Small classes, and a physical environment that includes a kitchen designed specifically for children and teachers to cook, vegetable and flower garden, motor room, and "investigation room" where children have hands-on experiences with science and art, complement our core program. Every morning, we welcome children into our extended playground that sets the stage for imaginative play and physical development, with its bike path, climbing equipment, and rock and sand gardens. "The city school with the country playground" Every year at our Parents Evening we share the philosophy of our school through word play and photographs of every child. Temple Sinai Nursery School is a child care center in Washington, DC. We are open from 6:00am to 6:00pm. To learn more about us, please send us an email.

Christian Family Montessori School

Over three decades ago, a small group of parents desired a school for... their children where the teachers would treat the students respectfully, as human beings loved by God, as well as nurturing them academically. Christian Family Montessori School opened in September of 1981 with 12 students, meeting in the living room of Catherine and Charley Maresca. Rebekah Rojcewicz was their teacher, called to our school from her study in Rome with Sofia Cavalletti, initiator of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. In March 1982 CFMS made its home at St. James Catholic Church in Mt. Rainier, MD where it would remain for nearly 30 years. During those years the school added a second Primary class and two Elementary classes serving children from age 2 1/2 through 12 year olds in the sixth grade. In June 2012 CFMS moved to its present home located at St. Paul's Rock Creek Episcopal Parish surrounded by the beautiful grounds of the historic Rock Creek Church Cemetery. As the school celebrated its 30th year, it also was able to offer both Traditional and All-Day Primary Montessori programs to provide various scheduling options for families including half-day and full-day classes between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The two Elementary classes have a full school day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the option of Elementary Extended care until 6:00 p.m. Through its growth and in various locations, the school has maintained its founding vision of providing an education that nourishes children in body, mind, and spirit. Since its opening, CFMS has offered financial assistance in an effort to serve an economically diverse community of families. The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) recognizes Christian Family Montessori School as a recognized A.M.I. Montessori School at the Primary and Elementary levels.

Rizzing Starrz’s mission is to promote the enrichment of educational, cultural, artistic and scientific activities that are vital to the growth and creative expression in children. We work to provide a safe, fun and friendly atmosphere that takes full advantage of teachable moments. While providing developmentally appropriate activites where the minds of young children will be motivated and nourished, while their creative abilities are stimulated. Hours of Operation RSFCC’s hours of operation are 6:30am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday. All child/ren are to arrive at RSFCC no later than 9:00a.m with the exception of doctor’s appointments. Please be courteous and inform us of absences and lateness. Waiting for children to arrive disrupts the program and disturbs the atmosphere. Here at RSFCC we take the well being of the child/ren seriously and a well-adjusted child/ren lends to a pleasant environment. Daily schedule Below is a sample schedule of a typical day at Rizzing Starrz. This schedule serves as a tool to help parents who may be interested in simply stopping by to hang out with us for a while. There are times that we will deviate from the schedule simply because the children have their own agenda for the day. While having a structured day is a great way to teach the children several important skills, we at Rizzing Starrz are not so rigid that we don’t allow room for adjustment. Rizzing Starrz offers full and part-time programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. We believe that we provide the best care for children of all ages and recommend that you visit our center for a tour to see what we have to offer. We encourage you to contact us to schedule a visit at which time rates will be discussed. Our program balances teacher-planned and child-initiated learning, emphasizing responsiveness to children’s strengths, interests, needs, and learning styles using the nationally-known, play-based Creative Curriculum. This curriculum emphasizes four main goals for growth and development. They are Social/Emotional, Physical, Cognitive and Language development. We carefully plan and maintain balance between freedom and guidance, group and individual activities, and active and quiet learning for each child. Children happily attain the varied social, emotional, and academic skills needed for Kindergarten and beyond. Field trips are an added bonus to our curriculum as they serve to allow the children to explore beyond the confines of their familiar surroundings. Our field trips take us all over the Washington Metropolitan Area and you can be sure that it involves culture, the arts and music. Some of the places we visit are The Smithsonian Institute’s Discovery Theater, Glen Echo Park, Cox Farm, Martin Luther King Swimming Center and Reston Farm Park. We even learn a little etiquette as we will often take a ride on our transit system and visit a local restaurant. The children really enjoy a break in the regular routine and will often ask to go on a field trip. Permissions slips are required and in some cases a fee as well.
