Tender Tots
Aletheia McCaskill is a licensed family child care provider in Baltimore, MD. Aletheia Mccaskill cares for children as young as 12 weeks through 12 years old. About Us: Tender Tots is based on the belief that our customers' needs are of the utmost importance. We are committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals. We have created an environment filled with patience towards the understanding of your child's needs. We encourage positive goals and help develop self-esteem and awareness. We have extensive experience with children with special needs including gestational tubing (feeding tube), mild-severe handicaps, apnea monitors, behavior disorders & speech/physical challenges. We welcome outside programs such as Maryland Infant and Toddler Program to aid in the full potential of our children. I'm Aletheia McCaskill. Many call me, "Miss Pooh", an old childhood name & easier for the children to pronounce. I have been married for almost 20 years & the very proud mother of 2 very special young ladies. I have my Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and my Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Development, Magna Cum Laude. After 7 years of serving in the private work sector as a computer analyst/programmer, I diligently began serving the child care community. It has been a wonderful journey for the past 17 years. I am an active member of NAFCC (National Association for Family Child Care), SEIU, Local 500-Child Care Division [currently serving as a Leader on Bargaining Committee and as Chairwoman, Baltimore City/County Regional C.O.P.E.], Level 6 of Maryland Child Care Credential, Maryland EXCELS, Certified in Emergency and Disaster Preparedness and I provide support services & child care to local homeless shelters several days a week. I truly believe that it takes a village/community to raise a child. I commend the curious child. Self-discovery and building social skills are as equally important as learning the fundamentals of reading, writing and math. My passion for early child care doesn't stop here at daycare. I love mentoring & my newest adventures are advancing state government policies that pertain to early learning/child development & writing children's books (only in the mental process for now). My philosophy of education is extensive. In the largest sense, I believe education serves many purposes. It builds character & connects us to the unknown. Yes, to some degree, education can lead to financial prosperity. But, the measure of wealth can only be defined by an individual's character. Please send an email for more information.
Gateway School
Clear and effective communication is a necessity; there is a compelling need to understand and to be understood. HASA supports and facilitates individual choice in how to communicate. Our audiology, education, interpreting and speech-language services enable effective communication for individuals and families. Gateway School offers two programs for preschool children ages 2 through 5. One is a Listening and Spoken Language Program: Little Ears, Big Voices that serves children with hearing loss (please click here to learn about the Little Ears, Big Voices Program). Gateway School's other preschool program is for children with communication disorders that include speech and language delays, developmental delays, autism, and other conditions that may include hearing loss. Like all Gateway School programs, classes for your child are small, with a low student-teacher ratio of 3:1 or less. Our preschool students often face challenges of multiple and sometimes medically complicated conditions, but our teachers make their preschool experience nurturing and educational. They provide your child with the attention he or she needs. Our kindergarten and elementary classes emphasize strengthening your child's language skills that support academic skills, social development, and personal independence. Specialized instructional strategies are used to develop reading, spelling, written language, and mathematics skills. Instruction in the areas of science and social studies is hands-on, multi-sensory, and emphasizes the development of language concepts. Instruction in social skills and adaptive/life skills is an important part of your child's educational program and is integrated throughout the school day. Children who develop spoken language have the option to participate fully in the mainstream community. “Oral children” (children who are deaf or who have severe to profound hearing loss but can understand and use spoken language) can successfully learn to read and write through conventional methods. Children in Gateway’s Listening and Spoken Language Preschool receive comprehensive audiological management on-site. Teachers and professionals collaborate to meet the individual needs of every child and staff are experts in deafness, technology, acoustics, and speech and language development. We have created an environment that nurtures self-esteem, independence, creativity, and problem solving, as the children develop listening and speech skills. Spoken English is the only language used by children at “Little Ears, Big Voices.” Our rigorous academics, which follow the Maryland State Curriculum, prepare children for mainstream kindergartens/elementary schools. Must have a referral from a outside professional, or local school system.
