Gunston Children's House

About Me Dear parents, thank you for visiting Gunston Children's House, my home daycare in Lorton. I’m the owner of this family child care program,... and the main caregiver and teacher. I have 18 years of child care experience, including 5 years running my very own daycare. I’m also a mother of 3 (my kids are now all grown), so I have plenty of experience with young children! I’m not only CPR and first aid certified, but I also used to be a medical assistant so you can be sure that your little one will be safe with me. My Daycare Gunston Children's House is small family child care and preschool program. I offer full-time and part-time daycare for infants as young as 4 weeks, as well as toddlers and preschoolers up to 4 years old. My hours of operation are Monday through Friday, between 6:30am to 6:00pm. Snacks are included in the tuition and include healthy and nutrition food such as fresh fruit, cereals, granola, cheese, juice, and more (we run a peanut-free and treenut-free daycare.) Curriculum I use a play-based teaching philosophy because I believe that young minds learn through play. I am committed to offering a safe and nurturing environment for your child to learn and grow. Daily activities include circle time, story time, arts and crafts, quiet/rest time, and of course, lots of indoor and outdoor play! Children explore interests on their own and with each other, and early learning activities are tailored to each child. We use a number of age appropriate educational tools such as markers and pencils to develop fine motor skills (coloring, drawing lines) and books for language development (listening, reading, writing, articulating sounds and words, identifying letters, etc.) In addition to English, I also speak Arabic and Amharic and can expose your child to a foreign language if you’d like. We also teach math concepts (for instance, we use block blocks to learn shapes and spatial relations) and focus on social and emotional development. Our Location Gunston Children's House is conveniently located in the Gunston Cove neighborhood of Lorton, VA (near Gunston Rd and the Gunston Elementary School). Our home daycare has easy access to major roads for your morning and evening commute (our daycare is right off Richmond Hwy (route 1), and is also close to the I-95). Please send a message to learn more or to schedule a tour, I look forward to meeting your family!

Springfield KinderCare

OverviewOur experts designed our classrooms — and every activity and lesson executed within — to help prepare your child for success in school... and beyond. With designated learning centers, such as dramatic play and blocks in every classroom, children have the opportunity for rich social play and self-initiated discovery. You’ll also find that our classrooms feature a print-rich environment full of carefully selected materials, such as written charts and labels, as well as children’s literature. By helping your child connect spoken words and print, we’re helping develop early literacy and writing skills. Whether your child has first words or first grade on the horizon, we’re excited to show you how everything in our center is designed for learning! Teachers & StaffWe strive for the best when it comes to educating your child socially, academically, and emotionally. We have an enthusiatic, flexible and patient staff ready to help guide your child's learning. With most of our staff members being long-term, we offer lots of experience and knowledge. We also offer teachers with teaching degrees and Child Development Associate's Credentials, as well as CPR, First Aid, and Medication Administration Training. Health & SafetyOnce you enter our building, you will immediately see our new Health and Safety board. It includes helpful reminders of how to keep your child healthy and safe at home, and how to help us to maintain it here. Once you enter our buildings through keypad entries, you will see how seriously we take safety in each of our classrooms. More than half of our staff are CPR and First Aid certified, and we have one or more teachers in each room that have additional training in how to administer your child's medication.

Newington Schoolhouse

About Us Newington Schoolhouse is a home-based child care and early education program in Lorton, VA! I’m the owner and main caregiver and I have 2... decades of experience in child care! I hold an Associate’s Degree in Early Child Care Development, but I’m working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. I am also involved in local organizations that support child care providers and early educators. I run my daycare with my 2 assistants who have 42 years of combined experience! We are all CPR and First-aid certified, as well as MAT trained so we can administer medication to all children in our care if needed. As parents ourselves and as early educators, we have the required qualifications and skills to care for your precious little one! Curriculum & Philosophy We understand how critical your baby’s first years are, so we are dedicated to guiding them through these very important developmental stages. We are also very hands-on in observing each child’s learning and development. It's very important for us to dig below the surface and really learn about each child and how they develop as a person. At our daycare, you can have peace of mind and be assured that your child is in a stimulating and encouraging environment, where they can learn and grow. We believe that children learn effectively through play, so we’re following the Play-based learning philosophy. This approach helps our little students develop cognitive and socio-emotional skills. In addition to English, we also speak Spanish, Arabic and Amharic! At parents' request, we can expose our students to these foreign languages (this is a wonderful opportunity for your child to learn another language, though we are not a bilingual or language immersion child care program). Program & Facility Newington Schoolhouse is open year-round from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. We provide full-time and part-time care for infants as young as 1 week, as well as toddlers and preschoolers up to 2 years old. We’re located in the Winstead Manor neighborhood in the Newington area of Lorton, VA. Our facility is right off Telegraph Rd (route 611), near Landsdowne Centre. Your commute will be convenient since we’re just a few minutes away from Fairfax County Pkwy (route 286) and the I-95. Please call or send an email to schedule a visit, we’d love to meet your family!
