The Haynes Academy Centers are licensed by the State of Maryland. The Haynes Academy location in Largo, MD, Largo Park Early Learning Center, recently became nationally accredited by NEPCA, the country's only independent early childhood accrediting organization. All THA centers are members in good standing with the County Resource Center and Maryland State Child Care Association. All staff members are certified through the Office of Credentialing in the Child Care Administration. Our Philosophy The Haynes Academy offers a variety of educational experiences to stimulate learning. Traditional children's stories, field trips, numerical concepts, and language experiences will be offered to enhance each child's development and learning ability. Children will be encouraged to use all of their senses to develop to their fullest potential. Our infants and toddlers are provided with love, nurturing, stimulation, and a variety of activities to promote cognitive and physical development. The Haynes Academy uses Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum to help teachers understand developmentally appropriate practices and how to create daily routines and meaningful experiences that respond to the infants and toddler’s strengths, interests, and needs. Included in their daily routine are story time, songs and music, excercise, as well as proper rest. Our experienced staff possess the ability to adapt to individual needs in order to enrich the learning of each child in a safe, secure environment. The Haynes Academy also uses Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum to instruct our preschool age students. The Creative Curriculum balances both teacher-directed and child-initiated learning, with an emphasis on responding to children's learning styles and building on their strengths and interests. This research-based preschool curricula applies the latest theory and research on best practices in teaching and learning and the content standards. The Creative Curriculum for Preschool clearly defines the teacher's vital role in connecting content, teaching, and learning for preschool children. It features goals and objectives such as: Phonics Handwriting Language Development Numerical Concepts Self-help Skills Listening Skills Social Skills Character Building This is a strong pre-readiness program that will successfully prepare your child for their first year of kindergarten. Before and After School Care. This program is designed for our school-age children from kindergarten through the 6th grade. Each afternoon, the school-age children will have scheduled time for homework, outdoor play, games, computer instruction, arts & crafts, and other educational and stimulating activities. The Del Ray Montessori School The Del Ray Montessori School currently has two established primary classrooms (ages 2 1/2 – 6) and one established elementary classroom (ages 6 – 12). In October, we will be adding an additional primary program, and in November, we will be adding a new Young Children’s Community (toddlers ages 18 months – 2 ½ years). Enrollment for our toddler, primary and elementary programs are determined based on the needs of the classrooms, taking into consideration age and gender of the applicants and balancing each classroom accordingly. First consideration is given to siblings of currently enrolled families, children with previous Montessori experience and to those families who submit their applications on time.
