Ilan Ramon Day School
In 1995 a Transitional Kindergarten, First Grade, and combination Second/Third Grade class were added, bringing the total number of children to 72. The school was now pushing the limits of its rented premises, the Gateway Four Corners Church in Agoura. As our population grew, our Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes moved to our present site in 1997, while Grades 1 through 5 remained at the church site until 1998. Presently, Ilan Ramon Day School serves children ages 2-11 on a beautiful 9 acre site in Agoura. Ilan Ramon Day School was founded as Heschel West in 1994 by a group of four families with the dream of starting a Jewish day school in the Conejo Valley. Under the guidance and support of Shirley Levine z?l, Head of School Heschel Day School, Heschel West opened its doors with 14 kindergarteners. Ilan Ramon Day School is an independent community Jewish pre school and day school devoted to developing understanding and respect for our tradition, and the divergent modes of Jewish belief and practice. Fundamental to our school philosophy is the development of each individual learner to his/her highest potential in both general academics, and Judaic Studies thereby enabling each student to attain a positive Jewish identification, sound self-esteem, and a love for learning. Our school is a community in every sense of the word. We teach by example how to respect peoples’ differences, to care for others, and to help those in need. Self esteem, respect, community service, mitzvoth (good deeds) are every bit as important as the challenging academic studies that fill our students’ days. Ilan Ramon Day School, previously known as Heschel West, is a 2008 National Blue Ribbon award winning school. Our students’ scores are in the top 10\\% of the nation. Shomrei Torah Education Center

At STS ECEC, our Jewish values drive the curriculum, environment and school culture. We model and encourage kindness, respect, compassion,... confidence and responsibility. Keeping all this in mind we believe in an experiential and intentional approach to teaching and learning. This approach fosters children's intellectual development as they are encouraged to explore their environment and express themselves through words, movement, drawing, painting, playing and other natural modes of expression. We promote and environment where children can develop the critical thinking and problem solving skills for a successful and meaningful life. Our facility is geared with the whole child in mind. There are many places and spaces to explore on our four different yards. We have a river yard with a flowing river, where children can take off their shoes and wade in the flowing waters. On this yard we also have a garden where the children can plant from seed to see how, what, and when things grow. On our BIG yard we have a sand and water wall, where children can dam up water and change the direction of the water flow. The sand and water wall is just outside of a large sand box where children can use their imagination to build sand castles, tunnels, and anything one could make in the sand. We also have a very large open grass area where the children can run, tumble, and have relay races. This yard also has the same types of area that you would find inside of the classroom, such as; art, blocks, books, and table top manipulatives. We are a big supporter of the "Outdoor Classroom". This is a movement that helps show the importance of bringing the indoor classroom, OUT! The Toddler and Beginner yard is just the right size for the smallest of our children. Here you will find a bike path, planting boxes, sandbox, space for reading, and a climber. The last yard is what we call "The Mud Pit". In this space children can fully immerse in the mud. There is a place for children to pump water into the mud area, and a space for children to paint with the mud. Not all children like the mud, so for those who choose not to get dirty, there is a area for children to sit and read a book, while their classmates explore the mud. STS teachers are highly qualified, loving, caring, and nurturing individuals. STS teachers help to nourish your child's heart and mind as we develop cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills. Teachers provide a curriculum geared to the different and developing interests of each child. STS teachers recognize that each child has his of her unique needs, interests and passions. Here at STS we view children as collaborators: they are competent, curious, inquisitive, unique, and creative.
