Program: My family child care program is open year-round from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. If needed, I can also accommodate earlier or later hours (please email to discuss). I offer full-time and part-time care for infants as young as 1 week, as well as toddlers through preschoolers up to 5 years old, including children with special needs. Breakfast, snacks and lunch are served to all attending kids (included in the tuition!) In addition to English, I speak Farsi/Persian and at your request, I can expose your child to this foreign language. My facility also offers plenty of outdoor fun – I have a backyard, and also a community playground (with pool) near my home. Location: Piney Glen Children's Place is located in the Piney Glen Village neighborhood of Potomac, MD. I’m right off Shady Grove Rd and a few minutes away from Darnestown Rd (route 28). My home is also a short drive from the I-270 and I-370 so your commute will be convenient. Thanks for taking the time to reading my profile, please send an email to book a tour. Home Away From Home
Hi parents, welcome to Home Away From Home! There is no better place for your child to learn and grow. We are a licensed child care provider located in North Potomac, offering a wonderful learning environment and individualized program to help your child reach their full potential. Our curriculum is designed to provide an environment where teachers support the nurturing and learning that the children want and need. Students are offered the opportunity to develop their natural curiosity and creativity and they can develop a lifelong love of learning. Learning concepts are brought to life in fun and imaginative ways, and enrichment programs are also available to expose children to the skills necessary to support their active lives, develop positive self-esteem and set the foundation for a healthy lifestyle. We stress the importance of a single, consistent caregiver for the majority of the day. This caregiver provides a written daily report for the parents. There is one caregiver for every 3 children in the infant and toddler room. Each room has a primary caregiver who performs the entire one on one range of care giving routines (feeding, changing, comforting, etc.) for that child, and with whom the child forms a bond of intimacy and reassurance. In the infant room, our experienced caregivers is carefully trained to help babies feel safe, loved and well cared-for. They understand the importance of talking to the children, making eye contact, singing silly songs, cuddling and the gentle guidance needed by the children through the use of positive discipline. In the toddler room, the environment is rich in materials which encourage exploration, active, and interactive play. Once young children develop a sense of trust, we help them become independent and self confident as they develop social, language and motor skills. Daily activities include story time, music, outdoor play as well as indoor play with age appropriate toys. Toddlers also do art activities each day using a variety of materials. Preschoolers are also introduced to activities such as sequencing and matching, story telling, process-writing to foster cognitive skills, social skill and language and art skills. Our learning centers encourage self-reliance and provide opportunities for children to develop their self confidence. Children also practice their decision making as they navigate from center to center. Children are encouraged to progress at their own pace according to their individual needs and abilities. We provide cribs, cots, sheets, blankets, morning and afternoon snacks, milk and juice. Diversity is an important part of our program and is emphasized in every room. We happily accept children of all races, nationalities and lifestyles. We will do our best to accommodate children with special needs. Thank you so much, we look forward to welcoming you and your child at Home Away From Home!

Sherman Early Childhood Center at Har Shalom

The Sherman ECC opened in 1972 and has grown to become the pride of our congregation. In the summer of 2016 our classrooms were completely renovated... and feature open spaces and big beautiful windows. In the fall of 2016 our school will be building a state of the art natural playground. Last year we were named Washington FAMILY magazine's Best Preschool, Best Faith-based school, and Best Art Classes. At the Sherman ECC, we believe that each child is a capable and unique individual. Our program provides learning and positive social interaction opportunities for all children through a quality, inclusive and developmentally appropriate program. We nurture children and families in a safe and supportive community. Our program strives to meet the individual needs of each and every child and encourages them to explore their environment through meaningful, relevant and hands-on experiences. Through an array of developmentally appropriate approaches, children develop language, cognitive, social-emotional and physical skills. In addition, our children develop spirituality and an intense feeling of pride in their Jewish heritage, as they observe and participate in Jewish customs and holiday observances. As early childhood professionals, we aim to give each child the opportunity to learn, develop and play to their fullest potential. Our Director, Beth Hoch has been in the early childhood field for over 16 years as a teacher, team leader, and school administrator. She has a passion for Jewish early childhood education and creating an environment where all children are growing and challenged. Beth feels parents are partners and that we work together in the classroom, at home, and in the synagogue to nurture each child and help them grow cognitively, socially, physically, and spiritually through a variety of learning experiences.

Saint Raphael's School

At St. Raphael School, we focus on the whole child—spiritually, intellectually, physically and socially. Our top-ranked elementary school provides... children with an inspiring and challenging academic program infused with state-of-the-art technology. Through differentiated learning and small-group instruction, we personalize the educational experience for each child. And all along the way, our Catholic identity shines through. Our school community, through faith and reason, prepares students to lead lives of service by embracing the love of God and neighbor. By fostering a strong sense of self-worth, we build character in our students and enable them to reach their full potential in mind, body and spirit. Some of the highlights that set us apart: Educational Building: Our building opened in 2011 and offers a science lab, art room, music room, computer lab and more. The middle-schoolers have their own home on the upper level. State-of-the-Art Technology: Classrooms are equipped with Promethean boards and document cameras for interactive learning. Middle-schoolers are assigned iPads, which enhance their cross-curricular learning while reducing the weight of textbooks. Warm and Welcoming: Our kind environment is consistently cited as a top reason for choosing St. Raphael School. Here, students are encouraged to use their gifts to be the people God created them to be. Customized Education: Differentiated learning and small-group instruction are woven throughout a rigorous academic curriculum. This means we’re able to accelerate children who are ready to advance while ensuring that those who require extra help get exactly that. Morning Prayer: The children begin their day in the church. The calming influence of prayer and quiet discussion helps them start every day with God in their hearts. Physical Education: Research has shown that physical activity stimulates the brain for better learning. Grades 3 and up have P.E. four times a week; K-2 have P.E. once a week and two recesses a day. Our new SPARK Room is equipped with cardio machines, punching bags and jump ropes. SPARK is a research-based program that emphasizes individual fitness goals that grow with the students, ideally into adulthood. Class Size: We cap our classes at 25. We strategically created a small school to give the children the attention they deserve. Lower teacher-student ratios allow each child to receive a customized education. Character Development: The Golden Rule is the moral compass that guides our students in their emotional development. Outreach projects teach the children that others need our compassion and care. Curriculum: St. Raphael School's curriculum is driven by the Archdiocese of Washington Academic Standards. The ADW modeled its curriculum after the top-ranked Indiana Standards, which allowed for an easy segue to the Common Core Standards. We do not "teach to the test" but instead employ thematic approaches to education. By developing a framework around a core theme, our teachers identify specific multi-disciplinary goals. Students explore independently and as a group as they accomplish cross-curricular milestones.
