National Presbyterian Child Care Center
Mission Opened in 2007, National Presbyterian Child Care Center is a traditional child care center dedicated to providing early childhood education in a nurturing and stimulating environment. A loving and inclusive community, NPS strives to facilitate the social, cognitive and physical development of young children. Overview National Presbyterian Child Care Center is located at the corner of Nebraska Avenue and Van Ness Street. The hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. NPCCC is open year round with the exception of most Federal holidays, some National Presbyterian School holidays and staff development days. Approximately fifteen children aged six weeks to three years attend NPCCC. Applicants must be at least six weeks of age to enroll in the program. Available spaces will be allocated first to children of the faculty and staff of National Presbyterian School and National Presbyterian Church followed by other members of the NPS and NPC communities. Remaining spaces will be allocated to the general public based on receipt of application and age of the child.
Mount Vernon Presbyterian Preschool
At MVPC Preschool, we follow a theme-based curriculum, which motivates children and unlocks the natural learner in every child. Through this curricular model teachers and children take a holistic approach to learning. Concepts, ideas and lessons are integrated within each theme and are revisited in later themes. As children discover, play and explore, they form patterns and understand the connections in the learning process. Our program is half day (9am to noon) and children must be 30 months old by Oct. 1st to enroll. We have extended day “Lunch Bunch” for one hour on Monday through Friday. Most days we also offer a changing variety of After School Enrichment Classes that have included Engineering, Art, Science, Cooking, Drama, Zoom around the Room, Spanish, Crafts and Book Buddies. These classes are from 1 to 2pm. Children attend chapel, say grace before snack time and are encouraged to grow spiritually in their faith-based tradition. To enhance our dynamic curriculum students attend weekly yoga, music and library classes. We have a large fenced and shady playground, equipped with modern playground equipment and lots of wide open space for active and creative play during our student’s daily recess time. When the weather limits outdoor time we have a large indoor space with soft play equipment for indoor recess. Our 4 Day and Pre-K students participate in the fun and hands on school readiness curriculum, Get Set for School by “Handwriting Without Tears”. This program is an award winning curriculum that focuses on playful learning to develop coloring, drawing, early math, literacy and handwriting readiness skills. For more information about our curriculum for all classes please see the Parent Handbook.
