We care for children from six weeks to twelve years in age. We received our Accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children in 2012. Our school's mission is to meet each child where they are developmentally and help guide them along their path to learning. We offer fun hands on daily activities for every age group. Your children will grow and learn in ways you never imagined with us. I hope you can find time to visit our school soon! I look forward to meeting you and your family! The Byrd's Nest Family Child Care
Hello! My name is Shanece Byrd, founder of The Byrd's Nest Child Care Center LLC. I am a registered child care provider. I am also a wife, and a mother of two handsome boys, Janai and Nahum Byrd. Here at The Byrd’s Nest, our mission is to provide a structured and nurturing environment for children to learn, grow, and have fun!. The Byrd’s Nest is a safe and peaceful place where we contribute to your child's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. This is achieved through positive interaction, building self-esteem and confidence, teaching responsibility, encouraging good manners, and promoting healthy eating habits. Furthermore, your child's academic development will be stimulated through our hands-on, play-based learning curriculum; where every day is packed with exciting things to learn and do! My goal is not only prepare your child for school, but also for life!
Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Preschool
PHILOSOPHY: We will nurture the “whole child” in the areas of intellectual, social/emotional, behavioral, physical, moral, and spiritual development through age-appropriate activities in a faith-based environment. We will treat each child as special and seek to meet his/her individual needs by offering a wide variety of developmental and instructional learning experiences, both social and academic. Children will learn through individual instruction, large and small groups, teacher-directed and self-directed activities, and exploration of varied learning materials. We will encourage your child to be independent and confident, to problem-solve, to be kind to others, and to pray. We are committed to helping your child experience the love of the Father through relationship with Jesus Christ. We understand and value the important role that parents play and will partner with families in their child’s education. With family support and with teaching that embodies Christian principles, we expect your child to grow and mature in all of the above areas. MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to inspire a life-long love for the Lord through educational instruction that promotes children’s intellectual, moral and behavioral development. CURRICULUM: The curriculum at NBUMC is based upon Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Early Childhood Education. This means children will be learning concepts by playing with and manipulating materials. Children learn best through supervised play. Play is the work of children. Children will be physically moving their bodies and touching materials through hands-on activities in order to better make sense of the world around them. There are opportunities for the children throughout our daily schedule to engage in large and small group activities. Children are given experiences with teacher-directed activities as well as activities that are child-initiated, such as Centertime, Outdoor time, Independent Reading, etc. The curriculum at NBUMC is theme-based. We do NOT subscribe to a branded curriculum. These curriculum programs are expensive and don’t provide us with anything we don’t know already. Our imagination and ingenuity are limitless! The activities included in the curriculum are intended to stimulate your child’s intellectual/cognitive, social/emotional, behavioral, physical, moral, and spiritual development. Specific activities will include: worship, literacy, math, science, social studies, art, music, group games, outdoor play, snack, and special in-house events. All activities are age-appropriate, tailored to meet the unique needs of both the 3 and 4 year old programs and are imbedded in every part of our daily routine. TEACHERS: Jen graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.S. degree in Human Resources. She graduated with three certifications: Nursery/Kindergarten, Young Exceptional Children (Special Education), and Child Life. She joined the Nichols-Bethel Preschool as a teacher in Fall 2009 and became the school’s director in Fall 2010. Deborah graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine with a B.S. degree in Medical and Research Technology and a Chemistry minor. She first served at Nichols-Bethel Preschool as a classroom volunteer when her children attended our program. Deborah came on board as a substitute teacher in the fall of 2014. Deborah has been a full-time teacher with the preschool since January 2017.

Community United Methodist Child Development Center

Pastor Stan Cardwell received a Master of Divinity, Pastoral Studies/Counseling at Asbury Theological Seminary where he was a member of L.O. Society.... He went on to Beeson International Center for Biblical Preaching and Church Leadership at Asbury Theological Seminary and received a D.Min in Church Leadership and transition. Pastor Stan served as Associate Pastor at Bel Air United Methodist Church, and continued there as the campus-teaching pastor of “The Vine”. The Vine is a “campus” of Bel Air United Methodist Church. “Campus” is in quotes because it is really a church without walls, gathering on Sunday mornings for worship, fellowship and formation, but the heart of the faith community is really in the home and marketplace. We have been called to “go” – to serve our community and neighbors. Our mission is to love people into a relationship with Jesus Christ and to share all God has given us with our world. We are a ragtag collection of Christ-followers who hunger, more than anything, to connect with the True Vine – Jesus Christ (John 15), and who deeply desire to connect others to him as well. Pastor Stan then moved on as Lead Pastor at the First Methodist Church in Berkley Springs, West Virginia. His appointment as Lead Pastor at Community United Methodist Church in Crofton, MD brings him back to the state, and affords him the opportunity to use his leadership skills and deep desire to relationship with Jesus Christ and to others. Children and Youth At the 9:00AM service we have Sunday School for Pre-K (age 4) through 5th grade in a one room schoolhouse type structure, with a mixture of all age activities and distinctly age appropriate activities. At the 10:45AM service, we have Sunday School for Pre-K (age 4) through High School. The classes at 10:45AM are divided into the following groups: Pre-K, K thru 3rd grade, 4th & 5th, and 6th thru 12th. All of our teachers and leaders follow the Safe Sanctuary policy that has been adopted by CUMC. The children start off in the Education Building-directly behind the Sanctuary building-and are brought to the Sanctuary for a Children’s message.
