City Center Little Academy
About Us Dear parents, welcome to City Center Little Academy, our child care center and preschool in Sterling, VA. We are not a large chain or corporation, we are a privately owned and independently operated daycare center which has served families in the Potomac Falls / Sterling area for over 20 years! We pride ourselves in providing a safe, fun filled, and nurturing place where children can learn and grow in a happy and caring environment. What makes us different from other daycare centers and preschools in the area? We believe it’s our highly-trained and experienced staff. Our teachers have been with us for an average of 10 years, which provides our children with a sense of security and safety. These are essential conditions for their overall emotional, physical, and academic growth. All our lead teachers have a Child Development Associates degree and provide the best developmentally appropriate curriculum based on each child’s individual needs and progress. Philosophy At City Center Little Academy, we not only offer nurturing child care, but also high-quality early education. Our teaching philosophy and curriculum are based on STEAM, which is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics. While STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) have become increasingly popular in early childhood education, STEAM allows young minds to diversify their skillset. STEAM fosters student inquiries, dialogue, and critical thinking. The approach helps develop problem-solving skills and foster collaboration. We also invite children to be curious and we promote overall well-being, including rest, healthy nutrition and physical activity. We also understand the importance of keeping parents informed about children’s developmental growth and progress, so we provide daily reports for every child in our care. Curriculum Our curriculum is specifically designed to fit your child’s age and developmental stage. Infants need a safe and nurturing child care environment, with plenty of individual time and attention. We strive to build trust and a loving relationship with your baby. Toddlers start to learn language, science, and social skills. They also start to develop both physically and emotionally. At that young age, learning is done through play in a safe, fun environment. When your child becomes a preschooler, our daily activities become more diverse, and our program becomes more structured. Early learning is done through a combination of independent and group learning. In addition to our child care center and preschool program, we also offer a fun and exciting Summer Camp. Every year, children can enjoy our fun activities that include swimming, movies and various field trips. Location City Center Little Academy is located off City Center Blvd in Sterling, near the Dulles Town Center (in the Countryside neighborhood of Potomac Falls / Sterling, VA). Our center is easily accessible by care since we’re near route 28 (Sully Rd) and route 7 (Harry Byrd Hwy). Thank you so much for reading about us! Please send an email to schedule a time to visit. Center, they are giving us the biggest compliment possible because they are trusting us with their most prized possessions-their children! Our mission is to create an environment where families are happy and engaged and children spend their days learning and preparing for school. We strive to engage with families and each other to create a warm, home-away-from-home where children thrive and discover a life-long love of learning! Our experts designed our curriculum — and every activity and lesson — to help prepare your child for success in school and beyond. With designated learning centers such as dramatic play and blocks in every classroom, children have the opportunity for rich social play and child-initiated discovery. You’ll also find that our classrooms feature a print-rich environment full of carefully selected materials, written charts and labels, and children’s literature. By helping your child connect spoken words and print, we’re helping develop early literacy and writing skills. That experience combined with a passion for Teaching, means all of our classrooms are wonderful places to learn! Our Teachers want to ensure that all families are comfortable and confident leaving their children with us, and get to learn each and every child's special needs to give the children the very best first school experience possible!   Health & SafetyOur Cascades KinderCare has a secure entrance that can only be accessed through entering a keypad code. The code to the Center is only given to enrolled families and is changed often to make sure only the most current families can enter. The building also has a security system that is directly linked to both the fire department and police in case of emergency. All playgrounds are surrounded by fences and our unique location at the end of the culdesac ensures low traffic and a safe environment. All Teachers receive bi-annual First Aid and CPR training and at least one person is on site at all times who has received Medication Administration Training as well. Shining Light Learning and Child Care

I am a well qualified, experienced, caring, and energetic teacher with over eleven years of experience. I believe that all children love learning and... engaging with the world around them. When given a comprehensive learning experience with fun captivating topics, and multi sensory experiences, a child's love of learning is fostered. I strive to help each child reach their fullest potential by helping them discover and build upon their strengths by providing opportunities that allow children to move steadily though academic milestones. I empower children by satisfying their curiosity and love of learning and encouraging them to be their authentic selves. Every two weeks, the children will explore a new and exciting theme! Language and Literacy, Writing, Math, Science, Sensory, Art, Music, Construction, and Dramatic Play throughout the day will revolve around the biweekly theme. I use the Jack and Jilly Reading Program along with other tools to teach letter recognition, letter sounds, sight words, and reading skills. My teaching is very hands on and interactive. I believe the best way to learn something is by doing it! Every single activity children engage in during the day is very thought out and purposeful. A typical day at Shining Light Learning includes the following: * Free play time where children may choose from different centers put out that day * Outdoor and Movement time for children to develop gross motor skills * "Fine tune up time" where children work on fine motor skills * Interactive circle time where children learn about the calendar, holidays, people in history, and learn more in depth about the theme we are working on. Circle time will also include letter and number games and activities, life lessons, music and movement activities, and story time that is brought to life through story boxes, acting, and movement. * Learning time where children engage in academic activities that revolve around the theme. Children receive individual help and work on what they need to practice so that they may build upon their skills and knowledge at their own rate and develop and progress through academic milestones at a steady pace. * Snacks and meal times where a dining atmosphere is created. Children will practice family style dining by serving themselves, pouring milk from a child's size pitcher, passing food, and practicing proper dining etiquette. On some occasions, snacks and meals will include the theme that the children are learning about. Snacks and meal plans are developed around what fruits and vegetables are in season, the theme the children are working on, and follow the USDA's guidelines. * Library time where children may explore books and learn how to handle them properly as well as experience the different ways in which stories can be told. * Restful Relaxation when children may take a nap or relax with a quite activity * Special activity time that varies day to day and includes activities such as gardening, cooking, special games, and world travel lessons (just to name a few!) Shining Light Learning is special and unique because your child will receive the individual attention that they deserve and a learning program that is tailored to them. This one of a kind opportunity allows your child to move at their own pace. Doing so prevents the frustrations that can occur when a child feels they don't understand what is being taught as well as keeps children challenged so they don't become bored and can keep growing and pushing through academic milestones at their own rate! In addition to receiving individual instruction and guidance from a veteran teacher to help them prepare to enter school your child will also receive a keepsake portfolio that includes their art work, photos of your child throughout the year, and displays their steady growth and development over time!
