First Evangelical Lutheran Prekindergarden
Thank you for your interest in First Lutheran’s Preschool Program. In order to attend our preschool, your child must be bathroom independent, and 3 or 4 years of age, depending on the class selection, by September first of the year attending. Please read the information below to get more information about our program. We encourage you to stop by and visit with us on any regular school day, but please call ahead to make sure we are not on a field trip or doing something outside the building. First Lutheran’s preschool program has been around for over 60 years (est. 1950). It is a great testament to our program that a lot of previous attendees are now bringing their children and even grandchildren back to us. At First Lutheran, we teach colors, letters, shapes, religion, how to play and get along with others and kindness. Our religious activities do not teach Lutheran doctrine. We teach good Christian values. The pastor meets with the children for a special worship time each week. Each month we will have a special Emphasis on topics such as Transportation, Farming, Safety or Manners. Field trips focusing on this emphasis will be taken every month except January when it is frigid outside and we have some very important guests visit with us here at the school. A typical day will include: Play Time Circle Time (we will learn new songs and poems or work on numbers, letters, shapes & colors) Table time (focusing on monthly emphasis we will do worksheets or crafts) Religion Snack Story time
Community United Methodist Child Development Center
Pastor Stan Cardwell received a Master of Divinity, Pastoral Studies/Counseling at Asbury Theological Seminary where he was a member of L.O. Society. He went on to Beeson International Center for Biblical Preaching and Church Leadership at Asbury Theological Seminary and received a D.Min in Church Leadership and transition. Pastor Stan served as Associate Pastor at Bel Air United Methodist Church, and continued there as the campus-teaching pastor of “The Vine”. The Vine is a “campus” of Bel Air United Methodist Church. “Campus” is in quotes because it is really a church without walls, gathering on Sunday mornings for worship, fellowship and formation, but the heart of the faith community is really in the home and marketplace. We have been called to “go” – to serve our community and neighbors. Our mission is to love people into a relationship with Jesus Christ and to share all God has given us with our world. We are a ragtag collection of Christ-followers who hunger, more than anything, to connect with the True Vine – Jesus Christ (John 15), and who deeply desire to connect others to him as well. Pastor Stan then moved on as Lead Pastor at the First Methodist Church in Berkley Springs, West Virginia. His appointment as Lead Pastor at Community United Methodist Church in Crofton, MD brings him back to the state, and affords him the opportunity to use his leadership skills and deep desire to relationship with Jesus Christ and to others. Children and Youth At the 9:00AM service we have Sunday School for Pre-K (age 4) through 5th grade in a one room schoolhouse type structure, with a mixture of all age activities and distinctly age appropriate activities. At the 10:45AM service, we have Sunday School for Pre-K (age 4) through High School. The classes at 10:45AM are divided into the following groups: Pre-K, K thru 3rd grade, 4th & 5th, and 6th thru 12th. All of our teachers and leaders follow the Safe Sanctuary policy that has been adopted by CUMC. The children start off in the Education Building-directly behind the Sanctuary building-and are brought to the Sanctuary for a Children’s message.

Creative Beginnings Preschool

Creative Beginnings Preschool is a child development preschool which... provides a loving, caring, supportive environment for young children, meeting them at their present levels of growth and maturity, and encouraging them in their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social development. We believe that it is important that children develop a strong sense of self-worth and self-confidence so that they can relate to their peer group and assume a sense of responsibility. By building a positive experience, it is our belief that children will grow to adulthood confident in their ability to influence, constructively and creatively, the social and physical environment around them. Play is the primary way in which children learn. We contribute to this learning in the following ways. Language Experiences will develop the children’s use of the English language, increase their vocabulary, and ultimately give them a delight in the use of words. Science Experiences will develop the children’s sense of spatial and numerical relationships, involve them in the wonder of natural growth and increase their interest in the physical world around them. It will give them an elementary sense of cause and effect and develop their own ability to influence and affect the world around them. Creative Experiences in music, art, poetry, drama, and dance will stimulate their artistic skills by working with their natural abilities to see, hear, taste, touch, and smell. As these skills develop, the children will expand their creativity and grow in appreciation of the arts. Physical Experiences both inside and out, are planned to develop small and large motor coordination skills. Daily involvement in a variety of physical activities will release the children’s natural tensions, develop their muscles, and give them a sense of accomplishment in the mastering of body skills. Spiritual Experiences will provide opportunities for children to feel a sense of wonder as they discover the world God made. Social Experiences in sharing toys, and people will help the children to find constructive ways for dealing with their anger, joy, frustration, happiness, disappointment and wonder. Such experiences will also support their relationships among other people in different environments.
