The Compass School
The mission of The Compass School is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes your child's depth of knowledge while inspiring a life-long love of learning. Through the Reggio Emilia-inspired approach, children are given the tools and support to steer through their own distinct paths of discovery. Our project-based curriculum encourages children to be active participants in the learning process and to develop the skills needed to explore their ideas, interests, and questions in a meaningful way. Philosophy True Reggio-inspired programs give appropriate attention to the look and feel of the learning environment both within the classrooms as well as in the common spaces of the school. Environment is often referred to as the “third teacher.” By giving consideration to how materials and documentation are displayed, the goal is to create an atmosphere that fosters creative exploration and demonstrates respect for children’s work. Classroom Environmental Guidelines Here are a few highlights of The Compass School’s environmental guidelines for teachers and administrators: - Classroom environments should be a reflection of the children, parents, and teachers who live and learn there. Items, objects & resources should be arranged in an enticing, imaginative, inviting, and/or thoughtful way- the environment should not feel cluttered or institutional. - Environmental emphasis on natural, every day, and “real life” materials - Documentation should be interesting rather than decorative, serious (not cute), engaging (not entertaining). - Visible documentation should be present to reflect work currently in process. Focus of documentation on displaying the creativity and thinking of children as it happens, as opposed to viewing documentation as a finished product. - Parents entering The Compass School for the first time consistently comment that the look and feel of the school is unlike any other preschool or child care center that they have visited. By adhering to basic principles and more, The Compass School strives to offer children a uniquely warm, inviting and child-centered school environment in which to explore, discover, and grow.

Classroom of Discovery

We offer a play-based preschool program based on the latest brain... research in cognitive and social-emotional development. We borrow from HighScope, Reggio, Montessori, and are NAEYC accredited. We have ten children and two teachers in a classroom and employ lead teachers who have degrees in education and experience in the field. We sent out daily emails describing our day and offer healthy and organic snacks. We DO NOT require children to be potty trained.

Exploring Learning & Fun CEC

We have been so fortunate to be able to offer one of the best... home-based programs around for the past 10 years! Unfortunately, the down side is that we are typically on a very long waiting list with being limited to 12 children. Currently, we are on a wait until Fall of 2019 however we recently found a location within a minute from our current location. We cater to families looking for a smaller, intimate setting that focuses on each individual child's needs. Our maximum enrollment is 48 children for our entire center. This means our classroom sizes will be very small with a very low teacher to student ratio. We offer a 3~1 ratio for infants, 5~1 for toddlers and our preschool classes are at a 7~1 ratio. Included in tuition is: classes in Spanish/French, Dance/Music/movement, cooking, science, horticulture. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are also included. Our expected opening date is April/May time-frame. We have a wonderful, accredited, home-based program here at E.L.F. We located off of Rt. 50, close to 28, 29 and close proximity to 66. We keep our ratios very low (Maximum 3~1) to ensure quality care and supervision. All of our staff come highly qualified with certifications in first aid/CPR, MAT and background checks. We work one on one with all of the children to ensure that they are getting the BEST education possible in the comfort and flexibility of a home environment! We offer a loving, home-like atmosphere, attentive care, and opportunities for creative development. By redirecting negative behavior and using positive reinforcement, our children thrive in a secure and happy environment. The potential to gain knowledge through interaction with others, and adhering to a schedule which enhances the security for our children is very important. Combined with a great curriculum, planned daily schedule, dedicated teachers, and an open line of communication, your child will thrive in what we are proud to say is "simply the best home-based program around" The following is just a portion of what we have to offer: -Daily curriculum including; reading, writing, math, geography and science. -Great field trips to explore the world around us -Music, movement, tummy-time and reading for our infant group. -Classes including; Spanish, art, music/instruments, dance/movement, computer and cooking! -Healthy, well balanced, home-cooked meals. -Outdoor play-time with water tables, pool, sandbox, slides, swings etc.... -Daily secured blog on our website that will include information about our daily activities, monthly newsletter, menu's, pictures and any other important information. -Great summer camp program filled with activities, water games, pool-time, field trips and more!
