New Brookside Bilingual Playhouse
About Me Welcome to New Brookside Bilingual Playhouse, my intimate child care and preschool program in Alexandria, VA! I’m the owner and main caregiver and I have almost a decade of child care experience. I hold a Child Development Associates degree and I’m CPR and First-aid certified. I run a Spanish bilingual daycare which means your child will learn Spanish in addition to English. This is a wonderful opportunity for your little one to become bilingual at a young age! As a mother of 3 myself, I can relate to your aspirations when it comes to finding safe and nurturing care for your child. Curriculum I follow the Play-based learning philosophy and use the Creative curriculum. This approach allows children to learn through play and helps me to integrate fun activities such as Drawing, Arts & Crafts, etc. My program also focuses on life skills (learning manners) and early literacy and academics (e.g. story time, etc.) I also use the ECC (Everyone Can Create) program, a new curriculum that allows teachers to integrate drawing, music or photography into their existing lesson plans (this is part of Apple’s successful Everyone Can Code initiative as one-of-a-kind programs for teachers that keep students excited and engaged). Program My licensed daycare is open year-round between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. I provide full-time and part-time care for infants as young as 6 weeks, as well as toddlers through preschoolers up to 5 years old. I can also accept children from Head Start. If weather permits, I take my little student to the community park for outdoor playtime. Meals are included in the tuition and provided to all children attending my program. I serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks, and if you'd like, I can also offer dinner if your child leaves late in the afternoon. Due to possible allergies, I run peanut and tree-nut free environment. I also offer before and after school care for older kids, up to 6 years old (my home is near Charles Barrett Elementary School, St Rita's School, and Grace Episcopal School). Drop-in care is also available for your occasional needs. Location New Brookside Bilingual Playhouse is in the New Brookside apartment complex in Alexandria, VA. I’m right off Mt. Vernon Ave (S Arlington Ridge Rd) and S Glebe Rd (route 120). I'm also conveniently located for your commute to work since my home has easy access to the I-395 and Jefferson Davis Hwy (US-1). I'm only a few minutes away from Crystal City, the Pentagon, and Ronald Reagan Airport. Please schedule a visit to see if it's a good fit for your child!

Maria Teresa's Babies Early Enrichment Center and Daycare

Our Mission: At Maria Teresa’s Babies Early Enrichment Center/Daycare, our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for... pre-school children. Our goal is to create a home away from home so that children have a nurturing place to grow emotionally and intellectually. We strive in giving parents peace of mind so that they will have no worries about the safety of their children while they are at work. Our promise is to conscientiously attend to the needs of all the children in our care. Our History: Hello, my name is Maria Teresa. I ran a home daycare center since 1989 before I opened this Center in 2009. I did this so I could offer the same nurturing environment of a home to more children. I did not want to open the Center in a commercial building because I wanted to keep the warmth of a family home. There were many challenges in converting a residential home into a state of the art Center. Bringing the building up to the strictest codes while keeping the warmth of a family home was difficult, but extremely rewarding once the project was complete. When I see the children enjoying the space, I know that I accomplished this goal. Now, I can use my decades of experience and knowledge to train my staff in providing a true home away from home for all children in our care and to nurture habits of healthy eating and physical activity that will last them a lifetime. Moreover, with our unique curriculum of hands-on learning, Spanish immersion, and enrichment projects, the children in our care flourish and thrive making them very well prepared to be successful in school. Our center is state of the art in safety, education, and physical activity. Our lead teacher’s are college educated in the early education or related field plus experience in the field. Our philosophy in early education also takes into account physical activity, “healthy mind-healthy body.” In addition to using proven early education techniques and a Spanish immersion program, we introduce children to mini-sports such as mini-golf, mini-tennis, mini-soccer, and other sports so that they may be physically active from an early age. About Us: All the teachers and assistants are specially trained in our Healthy-mind/Healthy-body philosophy and our unique curriculum with Spanish immersion that all children participate in, including infants. Because we are an enrichment center, we have different projects throughout the year like monthly art appreciation (study a particular artist and their painting for one month), monthly sports camps like mini-soccer, basketball, baseball, hockey, golf, etc. In addition, we have music lessons, yoga classes, and dramatic play. We also have children plant a vegetable garden every spring and we incorporate nutrition in some of the lessons plans. For example, children have basic kitchen lessons like making their own sandwiches, shucking corn, or learning how to make home-made tortillas. We provide home-made breakfast, lunch and a pm snack with fresh ingredients including plenty of fruits and vegetables (from our garden during the summer). These are just a few examples of the projects we do throughout the year.
