There are lots of fun experiments and projects you can do with children in the classroom that are informative, creative, fun, or all three!<\/p>\n
Dance, Raisins, Dance!<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Want to demonstrate the principles of density to children? All you need is clear soda, a clear container, and some raisins!<\/p>\n Fill the container halfway with a clear soda of your choosing, and drop in a few raisins (just make sure they have room to move).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Color Changing Flowers<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Flowers are beautiful on their own, but they\u2019re even cooler when you can control what colors they are!<\/p>\n You\u2019ll need:<\/p>\n Mix together the food coloring and water so that the color of the water changes from clear to a dark shade of whatever dye you are using. Trim the stems of the carnations and place them in the water. Within an hour or two, the petals of the flowers will absorb the colored liquid and change color.<\/p>\n Classroom Fog<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n You\u2019ll need:<\/p>\n Using gloves, place as large of a piece of dry ice as you want into a container filled halfway with warm or hot water, and watch the fog pour out!<\/p>\n You can also put the dry ice into a bubble solution to make fog bubbles that kids can safely play with.<\/p>\n Paperbag Jellyfish<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n These jellyfish are awesome, easy to make, and you can hang them up!<\/p>\n You\u2019ll need:<\/p>\n First, the jellyfish need to be decorated in whatever way the children would like. This can involve paint and glitter. Have them turn the bags upside down and glue googly eyes to the flattened bottom of the bag. Cut the opening of the bag carefully so that it creates strips like jellyfish tendrils. If you want to hang them from the ceiling, simply attach string to the jellyfish head.<\/p>\n Sidewalk Paint<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Sidewalk art doesn\u2019t have to be limited to just chalk. In this activity, children can make their very own sidewalk paint.<\/p>\n You\u2019ll need:<\/p>\n Mix together a little over \u00bc cup of cornstarch with a \u00bc cup of water. Make sure you slowly add in the water; you want it to easily drizzle but not so much that it is just water! Add the food coloring and you\u2019re ready to hit the sidewalks! If you are feeling daring, you can skip the paintbrushes and let them fingerpaint on a hard, concrete or asphalt surface.
