Thomas B. Hargrave Educational Center, Portsmouth

The main purpose for the establishment of the daycare center was to extend the mission of the church into the community. This is accomplished by providing all working parents the opportunity to place their pre-school children in an environment conducive to the development of educational readiness skills and sound Christian principles. In building a strong foundation for learning, Thomas B. Hargrave Educational Center will offer a comprehensive academic curriculum reinforcing unique skills in English, Mathematics, Science and Technology. We will implement the Preschool Standard of Learning Guidelines for Child Care Centers, Family Home Care, Preschools, Head Start, and Public Schools. In addition, the center also focuses on teaching personal hygiene, rhythm and music, basic shapes and primary colors, and assists children in developing large and small motor skills. Children engage in outdoor play, attend field trips, and are taught through teacher modeling.
