Heatherbrook Educational Child Care

About Us Welcome to Heatherbrook Educational Child Care, our home-based child care and preschool program in Fairfax, VA! I’m the owner and main... caregiver and I have 14 years of experience. I run the daycare with my 2 assistants who have 10 years of combined experience. All of us are CPR & First-aid certified, as well as MAT trained so we can administer medication to all children in our care. In addition to my child care credentials, I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Art and before opening my own daycare, I worked at another licensed center for a year. I’m certified for School Readiness Program through Fairfax County’s School Readiness Certificate Program. I’m also fully trained to do an assessment by using the Early Learning Guidelines Chart of Domains for infant to pre-K age We are parents like you and we understand your concerns when it comes to finding a safe and loving “second home” for your little one. Program Our daycare and preschool is open year-round from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. We offer full-time care for infants as young as 3 months, as well as toddlers and preschoolers up to 5 years old. We cook fresh, organic and healthy meals and serve them to all kids attending our program (breakfast, lunch, and snacks are all included in the tuition). We created a structured program and follow a specific schedule everyday, then update the parents about the activities we had throughout the day (e.g. sharing pictures with parents, so they do get a glimpse of their child’s day to day activities and play time). If weather permits, we go outside, play and introduce them to different sports such as badminton, soccer, basketball, baseball, catch & throw. We also teach them how to plant seeds, flowers, and vegetables, which they really enjoyed doing. Curriculum The children learn our basic rules through, love, patience, and consistency. We follow the Montessori philosophy and use a curriculum appropriate to their age in which we have a weekly theme and activities related to the theme for each day. We also follow the Play-based learning approach. We provide lots of opportunities to play dramatic/open-ended and pretend play. My staff and I are involved in these activities which give us the opportunity to learn about each child's socio-emotional development and problem-solving skills which is key to future learning abilities. Our goal is to keep every child happy first and teach them that learning is fun. In addition, we have an extra-curricular of activities including: Water Play (Summertime), Cooking Classes, Yoga, Dance and Movement, and Subject workshops to develop their learning skills such a Math, Language, Science, Geography, Culture, Sensorial and Practical Life. We also read one book everyday and we are part of the Fairfax county reading program (a county officer visits our facility once a month to give each child a book). At our daycare, we celebrate all festivals and promote diversity. Aside from the English language, we teach our students basic Spanish and Hindi, as well as the American Sign Language. Locationx Heatherbrook Educational Child Care is in the Heatherbrook neighborhood in Fairfax, VA. Our home is right off Stringfellow Rd (route 645), near Arrowhead Park and Stringfellow Soccer Park. Your commute to work will be fast and convenient since we have easy access to these major roads: I-66, Fairfax County Pkwy (route 286) and Lee Hwy (US-29). Conveniently located by the Fairfax County Government Center, the Fairfax Center was the first of our four child care centers to open. Established in... 1999, our facility sits on 2.6 acres and includes a spacious playground with a peaceful natural setting. This Fairfax child care center offers daycare programs for children 6 weeks to 12 years old with bright classrooms, enticing toys, arts and crafts, plenty of books and engaging educational activities. Our Fairfax child care center offers extended hours, an internet camera viewing system in the classrooms, and convenient, flexible schedules to meet parents' daycare needs. Our strong core of certified teachers has been with us for many years. They take pride in their jobs and love the kids they teach. Our Fairfax center participates in the VPI – Virginia Preschool Initiative program, which ensures children are ready for elementary school. Our Fairfax child care location participates in our S.T.A.R. Curriculum (Successful Teaching for Academic Readiness) for all age groups; a thematic based, developmentally appropriate curriculum. When you walk into our schools, you will be welcomed by well-trained and caring childcare professionals who make learning exciting and fun. We are also currently pursuing accreditation from NAEYC, The National Association for the Education of Young Children – a national, voluntary accreditation system to set professional standards for early childhood education programs.

Exploring Learning & Fun Child Enrichment Center

We have been so fortunate to be able to offer one of the best Enrichment programs around for the past 13 years. We cater to families looking for a... smaller, intimate setting that focuses on each individual child's needs. Our maximum enrollment is 48 children for our entire center. This means our classroom sizes will be very small with a very low teacher to student ratio. We offer a 3~1 ratio for infants, 4~1 for toddlers and our preschool classes are at a 7~1 ratio. Included in tuition is classes in Spanish, Dance/Music/movement, cooking, science, My Gym, and Art. We offer a wonderful program located off of Rt. 50, close to 28, 29 and close proximity to 66. All of our staff come highly qualified with certifications in first aid/CPR, MAT, and background checks. We work one on one with all of the children to ensure that they in a loving, home-like atmosphere, attentive care, and opportunities for creative development. By redirecting negative behavior and using positive reinforcement, our children thrive in a secure and happy environment. The potential to gain knowledge through interaction with others, and adhering to a schedule which enhances the security for our children is very important. Combined with a great curriculum, planned daily schedule, dedicated teachers, and an open line of communication, your child will thrive in what we are proud to say is "simply one of the best programs around.” The following is just a portion of what we have to offer: -Daily curriculum including; reading, writing, math, geography, and science. -Great field trips to explore the world around us -Music, movement, tummy-time, and reading for our infant group. -Classes including; Spanish, art, music/instruments, dance/movement, computer, and cooking! -Outdoor play-time with water tables, pool, sandbox, slides, swings, etc.... -Daily secured blog on our website that will include information about our daily activities, monthly -newsletter, menu's, pictures and any other important information. -Great summer camp program filled with activities, water games, pool-time, field trips and more! My name is Katy Thiltgen and I am the Director of the center.
