Wonders Child Care believes children develop and learn through play... in a nurturing and diverse community. We are a nonprofit provider of accredited early childhood education, before/after school, and summer camp with flexible programs, for children ages two months through sixth grade with nine locations in Washington, DC and Maryland. For more than 37 years Wonders has been providing a safe, nurturing learning environment parents can trust and depend upon. We are widely acknowledged for our commitment to multicultural education and are proud to be an integral part of our community. No wonder we are now one of the largest nonprofit child care organizations in the greater D.C. area, serving more than 650 families. That's a comment we often hear from the many parents who value our early childhood, pre-K, school age, and summer camp programs. It's a true testament to our caring learning environment, engaging teachers, and emphasis on community-building. Our nine sites offer a wide range of age-appropriate programs designed to embrace the cultures of the families we serve, and also the larger community beyond us. To this end, the Wonders Diversity Committee—comprised of teachers, directors and administrators—works to ensure that themes of sharing, fairness, and anti-bias are integrated into our always-evolving curriculum to create a positive transition between home and school. Our highly accredited Wonders teachers come from diverse cultural backgrounds and varied work experiences, but share several common traits: across our nine locations, our teachers are creative, mindful, and energetic, and all participate in ongoing professional development through our Professional Development Consortium. In addition, many are pursuing advanced child development and education degrees. We recognize their dedication to professionalism by providing a stimulating working environment and competitive salary/benefit packages, which, in turn, has resulted in a highly satisfied staff with low turnover.

The Del Ray Montessori School

The mission of The Del Ray Montessori School is to create a carefully... prepared learning environment that will nurture the spirit of the child, guiding each child along a path toward reaching his or her full potential for learning. We achieve this through: Providing a safe, stable, and academically stimulating environment for children guided by the principles of the Montessori method of education as supported by Association Montessori Internationale (AMI); Fostering the child’s innate curiosity and strong desire to learn through the implementation of a curriculum that is scientifically based on the development of the child; Helping each child develop independence, self-motivation, independent thinking, confidence with character, and a strong sense of community; Fostering a joyful, lifelong love of learning; Cultivating parent and community involvement to support the growth and development of children in a collaborative effort with the school. The Del Ray Montessori School offers parenting classes for parents and their child periodically throughout the school year. This Saturday morning class offers parents valuable insight into child development and the amazing growth of their own child as parent and child interact in a classroom with developmentally appropriate materials. Parents receive ideas about activities to engage in with their child and tips for ways to interact and enjoy their unique child. The class becomes a small community where parents can share questions and receive support while discussing child development from a Montessori perspective. The class is led by a Montessori trained educator and parent. The Del Ray Montessori School The Del Ray Montessori School currently has two established primary classrooms (ages 2 1/2 – 6) and one established elementary classroom (ages 6 – 12). In October, we will be adding an additional primary program, and in November, we will be adding a new Young Children’s Community (toddlers ages 18 months – 2 ½ years). Enrollment for our toddler, primary and elementary programs are determined based on the needs of the classrooms, taking into consideration age and gender of the applicants and balancing each classroom accordingly. First consideration is given to siblings of currently enrolled families, children with previous Montessori experience and to those families who submit their applications on time. Please contact the school to for more information on registration for our new programs.
