Buckman Playhouse is a licensed daycare and preschool program conveniently located in Alexandria, VA, less than 2 minutes from Richmond Highway (US-1). Families can easily access the school from Buckman Road or Russell Road, and it’s just a few minutes away from Riverside Elementary School.

Program:

Buckman Playhouse operates year-round, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. The program offers both full-time and part-time child care for infants as young as 4 months, as well as toddlers and preschoolers up to 5 years old.

Healthy, nutritious snacks are included in tuition, and all food is prepared in a peanut-free and tree-nut-free environment to ensure safety for children with allergies. Lunch is also available for an additional fee.

About The Staff:

Buckman Playhouse is owned and operated by an experienced caregiver with over 20 years of hands-on childcare experience and an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. In addition to being CPR, First Aid, and MAT certified, the owner is passionate about creating a safe, nurturing, and educational environment where children can thrive.

The program was founded after the owner raised 2 children of her own and discovered the joy and importance of the early years. That personal experience inspired the creation of a daycare where children are supported, families are valued, and every day feels like a new adventure.

Daily Activities:

Children at Buckman Playhouse enjoy a balance of play-based learning and structured activities that foster physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development. The program follows the STREAMin3 curriculum, which integrates Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Math into fun, age-appropriate experiences.

Daily activities include finger painting, clay and play-dough sculpting, storytime, music and movement, outdoor play, block building, and a variety of arts and crafts. Each activity is designed to spark curiosity, encourage creativity, and help children build important life skills in a joyful environment.

In addition to English, the provider is fluent in Amharic and can introduce children to another language upon request, giving families the option to add cultural and linguistic enrichment to their child’s early education.
