About Us:
Welcome to Elsa's Blessings Day School in Alexandria, VA! In June 2024, we proudly assumed leadership of this beloved school, which has served local families for over 20 years. What inspired us to take this step was the school's mission: one that closely aligns with our own passion for high-quality child care and early childhood education. We’re honored that so many families have chosen to stay with us through this transition, a true testament to the strong foundation already in place and the trust we are committed to continuing.
Education has always been a family business for us. Our story began in 1945, when Aunt Elsa founded a typewriting school in Heidenheim, Germany. Since then, our family has carried forward her emphasis on values, quality education, and nurturing care. Those are principles that remain at the heart of Elsa’s Blessings today.
At Elsa’s Blessings, we believe children thrive when families and educators work hand in hand. That’s why we focus on building strong, meaningful relationships with parents and fostering an environment where every child feels safe, supported, and inspired to learn. We nurture each child’s academic, emotional, social, and personal development, always celebrating their unique strengths and growth at their own pace.
With 8 vibrant classrooms and a team of 24 caring and highly trained teachers, we are proud to offer a nurturing and stimulating environment for every child. We maintain low teacher-to-child ratios to provide the personalized care and attention your child deserves. As we honor the school's legacy, we also bring fresh energy and new ideas to help children and families flourish every step of the way.

We also believe in investing in our teachers through ongoing professional development and training. This commitment ensures that our staff remains highly skilled, motivated, and ready to bring new ideas and experiences into the classroom for your child.
Our Mission:
At Elsa’s Blessings Day School, child care is more than a profession, it’s a calling. Many of our teachers are parents themselves, which gives them a deep and genuine understanding of what families need and what children deserve. This shared experience allows us to connect on a personal level with both parents and children, providing care that is thoughtful, empathetic, and grounded in real life.
As a family-owned business, we believe family is a treasure. We love this work because it allows us to support parents during one of the most formative times of their lives, offering a nurturing extension of the home where children feel secure and loved.
We see ourselves not just as educators, but as partners in your child’s early learning journey. Our goal is simple: to nurture children with the same love and respect we give our own, while offering parents peace of mind through reliable, compassionate care. Everything we do is driven by our shared commitment to families, and to helping every child thrive.
Philosophy:
We believe that every child deserves to grow in a nurturing, inclusive environment, and we’re committed to providing just that. Through our open-door policy and video cameras, families stay closely involved in their child’s daily progress, fostering trust and collaboration between home and school. Open communication is key to building a strong community where children feel confident, cared for, and connected.
Our program also integrates Christian values, gently introduced through prayer, songs, and Bible stories. At the same time, we warmly welcome families of all faiths and backgrounds. Our inclusive philosophy ensures that every child feels safe, respected, and loved while learning to value empathy, kindness, and community.
Curriculum:
Our curriculum is child-centered and developmentally appropriate, designed to engage children’s natural curiosity while supporting their growth across all domains. We tailor each lesson to the child’s interests and stage of development, creating a joyful, meaningful learning experience.
We follow the Creative Curriculum and all teachers are certified in Positive Discipline, CPR, First Aid, and MAT (Medication Administration Training). Every day includes a blend of structured activities and open-ended exploration: from morning circle time and movement activities like yoga and dance, to hands-on projects in art, storytelling, and music! Outdoor play and gross motor development are key parts of our day, as are social-emotional skills like cooperation, empathy, and communication.
Children enjoy two circle times each day, along with outdoor play twice daily, whether at the park or on walks around the neighborhood. A music teacher visits weekly to lead classroom music sessions, and we also offer rotating physical activities such as gym, yoga, or dance. Each quarter, children experience enrichment activities like puppet shows, petting zoos, magician visits, or story-time with a librarian. We also partner with our Parent Association to host community-centered events, from seasonal celebrations to service projects like donation drives for local nonprofits.
Whether a child is exploring early literacy with the help of our Smartboards, discovering the world around them, or simply enjoying imaginative play through puppetry, we’re here to support their journey with patience, encouragement, and love. At Elsa’s Blessings, our goal is to help each child become who they are meant to be: confident, creative, capable, and deeply loved.
