​South Austin's unique programs combine academics, self-defense, and discipline through an art form called BA KI DO. Developed by Sensei Dr. Michael J. Bainton, BA KI DO builds balance, speed, eye-hand-coordination, and situational awareness through practice based on his over forty years of experience in law enforcement in the United States, Canada, and with​ the United Nations. Sensei Bainton opened the studio in 1992, and has continued to be active, including earning a world record in knife throwing. His multi-disciplinary approach drives excellence in our after-school program, summer camps, and all-ages evening classes. Students learn to balance school and fun, too. Our kids maintain an average GPA of 94.4\% while many participate in multiple after-school activities.
