At Wee Gardeners Home Daycare we focus on the basics of being a good human on this amazing planet. The fundamentals, the foundation of a good life, how to be a good human; to be kind and respectful to our human friends, animal friends, and our plant friends. We focus on social interaction, sharing, caring, being a good friend, being helpful, how to work together, how to show love and be gentle as well as the respect of personal boundaries, our own and others. We learn how to ask for what we want and need. We encourage taking responsibility, bussing our dishes, cleaning up, natural consequences, independence and taking our own time to cool off and regroup. We encourage curiosity, adventure, and invention. We also encourage and celebrate silence, quiet time, being “alone” when needed, and recognizing when it’s just too much and we need to take a deep breath. The majority of the day is spent outside in the garden, climbing, running, jumping, watching bugs, digging in the dirt, finding worms, and harvesting the garden. Through play and hands-on fun, we experience our world and participate in how plants grow and where food comes from. We have a year round food garden and plenty of dirt for all ages to dig in and immerse! (*We do not use harmful fertilizers nor pesticides in any area of the garden) We dance and play music, make art and play dress up. We strive for balance with guided activities and a lot of free play. We play hard, eat well and rest up to do it all again! Meals, snack times and rest time are structured to give all a sense of routine and what to expect, however, we are free-range in our activities and each day will vary. We emphasize healthy minds, healthy bodies, healthy planet. As much as possible food provided will be freshly made, organic, and we strive for minimal added sugar (though the occasional birthday cake or fun treat is not unheard of….) Balance, really, it all comes down to balance.
