Hope Valley Preschool, Durham

Hope Valley Preschool, a 5 star center, serves children 6 weeks through 5 years. We are a member of the Duke Child Care Partnership and an observation training site for the Environment Rating Scales Institute. The center is open 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, year round.

We believe that:

• Children grow and develop at different rates.
• Children are naturally curious and eager to learn.
• Play is a child's way of working and learning.
• Each child is unique and must be valued for his/her individuality, interests, and way of learning.
• Understanding and respecting different racial and cultural backgrounds is valued.
• Learning takes place through discovery in every experience a young child has. It is most meaningful when it occurs in the context of everyday classroom activities as teachers provide new information and ideas.

Teachers promote desirable behavior through positive guidance. This occurs in an interesting classroom environment, suited to the child's level of development with age appropriate expectations. Prevention is the foundation of our discipline strategies.

We are partners with families and welcome ideas from parents in all areas of our program. We have an open door policy and parents are invited to visit at any time.
