International Christian Academy is so excited and blessed to have our new infant program. We will accommodate infants as young as 6 weeks old. We have created a program that emphasizes in physical, emotional, social, and cognitive/language development. The physical development can be observed by the gross and fine motor skills presented in a visual analysis. The emotional development can be studied by the reaction to different emotional settings with the infant as well as how the infant perceives others in an emotional setting. The social development can be reviewed by social interaction with other infants, toddlers, and their teachers. Lastly, the cognitive and language can be examined by play while the child is exploring the environment and the awareness that is presented by the child. Cognitive development is how the brain processes information. Newborns depend on their senses:seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, and touching, when exploring new things. Sign language will be used in the nursery to help his or her with a powerful educational tool of earlier communication. Frustration and outbursts are lessened, because our nursery age students are able to communicate his or her wants/needs until he or she can physically pronounce it. Toddler sign language can be used to develop social and language skills (even though they are a bit older than your typical infant). Toddlers can speak a few words, but still may have difficulty with communicating verbally. Learning sign language does not delay speech, but it fact aids speech development. Most baby signers speak earlier than babies who do not learn sign language.
