Welcome to Valleywood Discovery House! Our licensed home-based daycare in Millersville, MD is located in the family-friendly Valleywood subdivision and provides attentive, high-quality care for busy families.

We are conveniently located just off Old Mill Rd and Veterans Hwy, with easy access to the I-97. Our daycare is also just minutes from Southgate Old Mill Park and Southgate Elementary School.

Program:

Our daycare and preschool program is open year-round, Monday through Friday, from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. We offer flexible child care options designed to meet the needs of families in Millersville and across Anne Arundel County.

Our child care options are:

For infants (starting at 6 weeks), toddlers, and preschoolers:

Daily snacks are included in tuition and are prepared in a tree nut and peanut-free kitchen to support children with allergies.

We proudly welcome children with special needs and work closely with parents to understand each child’s unique needs and provide appropriate care. At this time, our facilities are not equipped to accommodate wheelchair users. We appreciate your understanding as we continue working to improve our services.

About Me:

Hello and welcome! I am the owner and main caregiver at Valleywood Discovery House. With over 14 years of experience working in established daycare settings, I created this home-based child care program to offer a more personal, family-centered environment for children to grow and thrive.

My background in modern arts and a Bachelor's Degree in Literature, combined with certifications in early childhood education, shaped my approach to learning: one that balances creativity, play, and structure to support each child’s development. I believe every child learns differently, and I take pride in recognizing and nurturing each child’s individuality.

As a parent myself, I understand the importance of trust and communication. I strive to build strong relationships with families and create a close-knit, supportive community where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged every day.

Mission/Curriculum:

At Valleywood Discovery House, our mission is to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging daycare environment where children can learn and grow with confidence.

Our play-based curriculum is enriched with creative learning experiences, including arts and crafts, language development, and exposure to basic French. We focus on supporting each child’s intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development through personalized learning milestones.

With extensive hands-on experience and certifications in CPR, First Aid, medication administration, and infant and toddler care, we provide both professional expertise and genuine care in everything we do.

Daily Activities:

Our daily routine is designed to balance learning, creativity, and play in a structured yet flexible way. Each morning begins with circle time, where children greet one another, sing songs, explore the calendar and weather, and are introduced to the day’s theme.

Throughout the day, children participate in curriculum-based activities such as arts and crafts, storytelling, and early literacy, along with exposure to basic French. We also incorporate movement through dancing, outdoor play, and occasional visits to nearby parks and libraries.

Children engage in hands-on discovery play using blocks, puzzles, and sensory activities to build problem-solving and social skills. Cognitive development is supported through activities focused on numbers, shapes, and colors.

After meals, children have time to rest or nap, followed by a calm afternoon of free play and structured activities before pickup. This balanced routine supports both learning and self-expression in a safe, nurturing environment.
