Location:

Welcome to Wheaton Woods Little Cottage, a licensed home-based daycare and preschool program in Rockville, MD! Our warm and nurturing home is located in the family-friendly neighborhood of Wheaton Woods, in the Aspen Hill area of Rockville. We're just off Veirs Mill Rd (MD 586), near the intersection with Connecticut Ave (MD 185), and only minutes from Wheaton Woods Elementary School and Wheaton Woods Park.

Program:

We are open year-round, Monday to Friday, from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM. We offer both full-time and part-time child care for infants as young as 6 weeks old, as well as toddlers and preschoolers up to 5 years old. Lunch and snacks are included in the tuition and are prepared in a peanut-free and tree nut-free environment to ensure the safety of children with allergies.

About Me:

Hello, parents! I'm the proud owner and lead caregiver of Wheaton Woods Little Cottage. With over 13 years of experience caring for children, both my own and those of close family, as well as 12 years as a caregiver for the elderly, I bring a compassionate and attentive approach to child care. I'm certified in CPR, First Aid, and MAT to ensure your child’s health and safety are always prioritized.

I opened this daycare in Rockville, MD, because I believe every child is unique and learns best when nurtured in an environment that supports exploration and independence. My goal is to provide a safe, inclusive, and loving space where children can grow, gain confidence, and develop at their own pace.

What I love most about this work is witnessing those “a-ha” moments: when a child masters a new skill, discovers something exciting, or simply gains confidence in themselves. Being part of their journey is both an honor and a joy.

Philosophy & Curriculum

Our curriculum focuses on learning through play, hands-on activities, and cultural inclusivity. I carefully choose developmentally appropriate materials in various textures, shapes, and sizes to represent the cultures and home languages of the children in my care, so that every child feels seen, respected, and celebrated.

The classroom environment is set up to encourage independence. Materials are placed on low shelves, making them easily accessible so children can make their own choices and take responsibility for their learning. We support child-led learning and tailor our approach to help each child thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.

Strong family partnerships are a core part of my program. I work closely with parents to maintain consistent routines and ensure each child’s individual needs are met. Together, we create a seamless connection between home and preschool, setting your child up for success.

Daily Activities:

Each day follows a thoughtfully planned routine that balances structure and freedom. We start the day with a warm welcome and circle time, where children greet each other, sing songs, and share thoughts. Then, we move into interactive activities like sensory exploration, collaborative games, and block-building that promote teamwork and problem-solving.

Creative expression is a big part of our daily rhythm. Children enjoy art, music, dance, and movement, which support motor development and allow them to express their individuality. Singing, drama, and musical theater-inspired storytelling are also integrated into our day, helping children build confidence and communication skills in fun, engaging ways.

Storytime supports early literacy, while outdoor play encourages physical activity and connection with nature. Weather permitting, we spend time outside for fresh air and imaginative play. Gardening is also a part of our seasonal curriculum, giving children the chance to care for plants and understand the world around them.

Mealtimes are more than just a chance to eat, they’re opportunities for children to build self-care skills and independence. Children are encouraged to make choices, participate in clean-up, and take pride in their routines. As a bilingual caregiver, I can also introduce your child to Amharic language and culture upon request, enriching their experience with the beauty of a second language.

When we were looking for childcare, we hoped to find someone who would care for our baby as if they were family, and in this provider, we found exactly that. Her warmth and genuine care are so comforting. She has created a home away from home for our little one, and it's a place that is not only clean and comfortable but also filled with kindness. We couldn't ask for a better person to trust with our baby's care.
