Program:

At Lockwood Cozy Corner, we provide full-time child care in Silver Spring, MD for infants as young as six weeks, as well as toddlers and preschoolers up to five years old. Our licensed Silver Spring home daycare is open year-round, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., offering children a structured, loving, and safe environment where they can learn, play, and grow.

We also welcome children with special needs, including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD. Healthy, well-balanced snacks are provided daily and are included in tuition. For the safety of children with allergies, we maintain a peanut-free and tree nut-free environment.

About Me:

Hello, parents! I’m the owner and primary caregiver at Lockwood Cozy Corner. I have more than seven years of child care experience, including over 1.5 years working as an assistant, and I truly enjoy helping young children feel safe, loved, and encouraged as they grow.

I hold a Master’s degree in Literature & Arts, and I am CPR, First Aid, and MAT-certified. As both a mother and an educator, I understand how important it is for families to find a daycare where they feel comfortable, heard, and confident in the care their child receives. I opened Lockwood Cozy Corner to provide a true home away from home, creating a space where children are cared for with patience, kindness, and attention, and where parents can feel reassured that their little ones are in safe hands. 😊

Philosophy:

At Lockwood Cozy Corner, we do more than care for children. We nurture their cognitive, social, and emotional development through a play-based learning approach that encourages creativity, confidence, and essential life skills.

We also believe strong communication with families is an important part of quality child care. We keep parents informed about their child’s daily experiences, achievements, and milestones, helping you feel connected and involved every step of the way.

Curriculum:

Our curriculum combines play and early learning through music, arts, crafts, hands-on exploration, and daily routines. Children build important skills while having fun in a supportive home daycare environment.

Social & Emotional Development: Children learn to share, take turns, and express their feelings in a supportive environment. Through guided interactions, they practice kindness, empathy, and problem-solving while building strong relationships with their peers. We also emphasize trust-building with caregivers, helping children feel a sense of belonging and emotional security.

Language & Communication: We encourage meaningful conversations, storytelling, and singing to help children develop strong language skills. Daily interactions introduce new words and concepts, supporting self-expression and active listening. Upon parent request, children may also be exposed to Amharic, a language in which I am fluent.

Hands-On Exploration: Sensory activities such as water play, sand exploration, and nature discovery in our fenced backyard give children opportunities to learn through touch and experience. We also introduce simple cooking activities where children can explore different foods and textures. Gardening and caring for plants help teach responsibility and appreciation for nature.

Daily Routines & Independence: We help children develop independence by practicing essential self-help skills, such as washing hands, putting on shoes, and tidying up after activities. Small tasks, like setting the table or organizing toys, teach responsibility and build confidence. Our structured yet flexible daily routine gives children a sense of stability, helping them feel secure and engaged throughout the day.

We have been bringing our eight month old to this family daycare for about two months. The owner and her staff are warm, communicative, and accommodating. We get regular updates and photos throughout the day, which gives us peace of mind while we are at work. The facility itself is always clean and safe, and there are new, age-appropriate toys and books for the children to use. The neighborhood is quiet and there is a fenced in yard with toys... more

She is a phenomenal owner and caregiver. She treats our baby like her own and is extremely knowledgable about taking care of and the development of infants and children. She has been extremely accommodating to our needs as first time parents and engages our baby in a lot of enriching activities. Her facility is brand new as is all the toys and items in it.
