Welcome to Wheaton Hills Discovery House, a licensed, Spanish-bilingual daycare and preschool in Silver Spring, MD. Located in the family-friendly Wheaton Hills neighborhood, we’re just off Parker Ave, with easy access to Veirs Mill Rd (MD 586), Georgia Ave (MD 97), and University Blvd W (MD 193).

We’re less than a 5-minute drive from Highland Elementary School and Wheaton Claridge Park, making our Silver Spring child care program convenient for families in Wheaton Hills and nearby communities.

Program:

We are open year-round, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. We offer full-time and part-time child care for infants as young as 8 weeks old, toddlers, and preschoolers up to 5 years old, as well as flexible drop-in care for occasional needs.

We accept eligible child care vouchers and subsidies and offer discounts for sibling enrollments and military families. 🥰 Every child is also served lunch and snacks each day at no additional cost. Our meals and snacks are peanut- and tree-nut-free, as the health and well-being of our little ones remain a top priority.

About Me:

Hola, parents! 👋 I am the proud owner and lead caregiver of Wheaton Hills Discovery House. Caring for children has been a meaningful part of my life for the past 20 years. As both a mom and an experienced child care provider, I understand the trust families place in the person caring for their children.

I created Wheaton Hills Discovery House to provide a safe, loving, and secure home-like environment where children can feel comfortable being themselves and parents can feel confident about their care. I am especially proud to be a NAFCC-accredited daycare, reflecting my commitment to high standards in family child care.

I am certified in CPR, First Aid, and MAT (Medication Administration Training). I provide a Spanish-bilingual child care program where children experience the Spanish language and culture naturally through their everyday activities.

I believe strongly in building trusting relationships with families because parents are a child’s first teachers, and working together creates consistency between home and daycare. Every child at Wheaton Hills Discovery House is treated like family, and it is a privilege to be part of their early years.

Philosophy:

At Wheaton Hills Discovery House, our approach is inspired by the child development theories of Piaget, Vygotsky, and Erikson. Our program focuses on learning through play, developing independence, encouraging problem-solving, and building self-esteem.

Our open-classroom environment allows children to explore and learn at their own pace while our educators provide nurturing guidance, encouragement, and a strong sense of security. We also believe children flourish when families feel connected, and we are proud to partner with parents in creating a caring community where children feel supported as they learn and grow.

Activities & Events:

Through our play-based curriculum, children enjoy art projects, music through singing, rhythm, and movement, and language activities through stories, conversations, and new vocabulary. Early math concepts are introduced through counting, sorting, and patterns, while science and nature activities encourage children to ask questions, explore, and discover how things work. Dramatic play lets children use their imaginations while practicing communication, cooperation, and social skills.

Throughout the year, we welcome families to special events such as Family Breakfasts, Mother’s Day Tea, and Father’s Day Ice Cream Socials. These celebrations help families connect and build lasting relationships within our daycare community.
