Welcome to Green Hill Child Development Center, our licensed child care center and preschool in Silver Spring, MD! About The Staff Our Director has 15 years of experience and holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Early Childhood Education. Our staff members are all experienced and qualified; they are also CPR and First-aid certified, as well as MAT trained (if needed, we can administer medication to all children in our care). Our lead teachers have at least an Associate's Degree. We’ve been in business for 45 years so you can be sure that your little one will receive the quality care and early education they deserve! Teaching Philosophy We believe that every child is unique and they can grow and succeed through encouragement and praise. Our teachers and caregivers help our little students build self-confidence by giving them proper guidance, positive feedback and rewards. We nurture them and always bring out the best in them so they can see the world around them with wonder and awe. Our staff is very diverse, and at our daycare center, we pride ourselves on teaching children cultural diversity. Curriculum We follow the Discovery method combined with the Reggio Emilia teaching philosophy, where students are guided as they learn through Play, Cause & Effect, Songs, Movements, Rhythm and Syncopation, Read Aloud Story Time, and Health & Safety. In other words, our program approach is not rigorous, but uses Intentional Teaching Strategies through the Nationally Approved Creative Curriculum with Maryland Module for School Readiness (MMSR) certified teachers. Our curriculum is mostly in English, however, we also introduce different languages such as Spanish as well as the American Sign Language. Our educational team and our curriculum allows children with varying special needs to be a part of our program with or without the help of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy (both onsite and offsite). We also help parents teach their children to be involved in the community. Program Our child care and preschool program is from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. We provide full-time and part-time care for infants as young as 6 weeks, as well as toddlers and preschoolers up to 5 years old, including children with special needs. All kids attending our program are served with breakfast and snacks in the afternoon (already included in the program), but parents have to provide lunch. We’re also open in the summer and we offer a fun summer camp program! Location Green Hill Child Development Center is located in the Takoma Park neighborhood of Silver Spring, MD. Our facility is right off Sligo Creek Pkwy (between Piney Branch Road and Maple Avenue) and has easy access to these major roads: Philadelphia Ave (route 410) and Carroll Ave (route 195).
