About Us:
I’m the owner and director of this high-quality child care and early childhood education program. I run my daycare with my assistant and we each have 20 years of professional experience. We both hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, we’re CPR and First-aid certified, as well as MAT trained so you can be sure that your kids are safe under our care.
Program:
Florida Ave Schoolhouse is open all year from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. We offer full-time, part-time, and drop-in care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers between the age of 6 weeks and 4 years old, including children with special needs. Our daycare provides lunch and snacks to all kids attending our program and these are all included in the tuition. To prevent possible allergies, we run a peanut and tree-free environment.
Philosophy:
We understand that each family’s child care needs are important, which is why our team is dedicated to working with you to meet your expectations. Our team strives to create a warm and welcoming environment where children can learn and grow. Our program is based on Christian principles and beliefs, and we help our little students to be lifelong learners and reach their full potential in all aspects.
Curriculum:
Florida Ave Schoolhouse introduces children to different languages such as Spanish as well as American Sign Language in addition to English. Our curriculum is tailored to each child’s unique needs and developmental stage: Infants: We engage babies in various activities that stimulate their minds, senses, self-awareness, and hand-eye coordination. At this stage, we also practice tummy time and we provide them a rich learning environment where they can improve their gross motor skills. Toddlers: Our dedicated and hands-on teachers encourage toddlers to participate in different activities that promote social development and foster self-confidence. We also introduce them to books and words, which is a great way for them to appreciate reading. Overall, we promote socio-emotional, physical, and intellectual development at this stage. Preschoolers: Our main goal is not only to make them ready for kindergarten and school, but also to make sure that they are above level. We expose them to educational yet fun activities to improve their math skills like working with manipulatives. At this age, we also work on letters and words to improve their writing skills. Our curriculum is age-appropriate with lots of activities that your little one will surely enjoy, such as phonics and reading, numbers and letters, arts & crafts, music, writing, and of course, lots of indoor and outdoor playtime (we have our own private playground).

We are very happy with this daycare! We were nervous to send our baby for all-day care, but Karla and her team made us feel like part of the family right away. They seem to genuinely care for our daughter and she is so happy to see them in the mornings. They've been flexible and easy to work with. We recommend them highly.

My toddler has been a student at this learning family child center for almost 5 months and it has exceeded my expectations on all levels! My child’s social and communication skills and cognitive ability have excelled tremendously in the short time they have been attending. My child is absolutely in love with teachers and often asks about them on the weekends. It is never easy, sending your child off to daycare and it truly warms my heart to know... more

Our children were well cared for and enriched during their time at this daycare. Our youngest only recently transitioned out and is now in public school where she is doing very well. During her time here, she learned a lot, was socially and developmental stimulated and truly enjoyed going to “school” everyday. Her teacher went above and beyond to meet her developmental needs and provide age and developmentally appropriate instruction and the day... more

My child has been taken care of by this child care provider and her staff since she was 8 months and through the difficult times during the pandemic. She loves being at the center and is excited to be there. The staff provide updates of the kids and are great at communicating in case of any issues. This is the second child I have had at this daycare and I would recommend the care here.

The owner and her staff are tremendous with children. They love them and care for them as if they were their own. It is a small center with a limited number of children, thus providing for one on one childcare. Our daughter (and son before her) is eager each morning to go to daycare and see her friends. They have a playground in the backyard for outdoor time and incorporate cultural activities that families are interested in. It is truly a... more

I'm writing to also heartily endorse this daycare center, it is an excellent daycare option for small children. As a home based center, it has far fewer kids than larger day care centers and so has a nanny share feel to it-- but with the benefits of day care (more predictable schedule, guaranteed socialization with other kids, etc). Starting at 3 mo's my daughter was in a nanny share that we absolutely loved, but by the time she was 1.5 years,... more
