Program:
At Petworth Children’s Corner, we offer a bilingual Spanish child care program Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. We provide both full-time and part-time care for infants as young as 6 weeks old up to toddlers 3 years old. Families who need occasional support can also take advantage of our flexible drop-in care. Nutritious daily snacks are provided, and we maintain a strict tree nut and peanut-free policy to ensure a safe environment for all children.
To support children’s growth and daily experiences, our center is equipped with a wide range of child-friendly facilities. We have a fenced outdoor area, a safe playground, an indoor playroom, a multipurpose room, and a cozy library for story time and early literacy. Families appreciate that our classrooms are supported by video cameras for safety, a communications app to stay connected throughout the day, and even a vegetable garden, where children can learn about nature and healthy eating.
We welcome children of all abilities and provide inclusive care for little ones with developmental needs, such as speech delays. Our program is designed to adapt to different learning styles, and we’re happy to discuss your family’s specific situation. Our goal is to support families seeking special needs child care in Washington DC, offering a safe and nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
About Me:
Hello parents! I’m the owner, director, and main caregiver at Petworth Children’s Corner. My journey in early childhood education began at Easterseals, where I worked with children with special needs. I later became a lead teacher in a public school and volunteered at CentroNía, supporting their mission of high-quality early education. Over the past 24 years, I’ve gained valuable experience across many childcare settings, which inspired me to earn my Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, along with CPR, First Aid, and MAT certifications.
Driven by a passion for creating meaningful change, I opened my own bilingual daycare and preschool program to nurture children through both language and learning. I saw the need for a warm, English-speaking environment that also introduces Spanish naturally and engagingly. My mission at Petworth Children’s Corner is to provide a safe, inclusive space where every child is supported, challenged, and celebrated. Here, children gain a strong, confident start in life through care, culture, and connection.
Philosophy
At the heart of our work is a genuine love for the impact we make every day. We’re passionate about watching children grow, learn, and build confidence, and we’re equally inspired by how much they teach us in return. Every smile, every milestone, and every shared moment reminds us why we do this work.
We also deeply value relationships with families. Getting to know parents, grandparents, and siblings, and becoming a trusted part of their lives, is one of the most fulfilling aspects of what we do. Even after families move on, we cherish the memories we’ve created together. This sense of extended family is at the heart of Petworth Children’s Corner, and it continues to guide everything we do.
Curriculum:
Our program is built on the Creative Curriculum, carefully adapted to meet the unique needs of each child. With a close, personalized approach, we foster growth in both English and Spanish, using engaging activities and materials that support bilingual development. We also keep parents connected through regular photos and updates, so families feel part of their child’s daily journey.
Every moment is designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning, while also building a bilingual community where all children and families feel valued. We believe these early experiences lay the foundation for a confident and successful future.
Daily Activities:
Our daily activities create a joyful, inclusive environment where every child feels safe, inspired, and encouraged to grow. Our day begins with a warm welcome as children arrive. Those who haven’t eaten yet enjoy breakfast, while others start with free play at their own pace. After breakfast, we gather for circle time to talk about the weather, sing songs, and share stories.
Outdoor play is a highlight, with safe, supervised trips to nearby parks that offer plenty of fresh air and exploration. Infants are included in group experiences whenever possible, such as sharing mealtimes with toddlers to encourage social learning.
Throughout the day, teachers guide activities inspired by the Creative Curriculum, adding special experiences like yoga to promote well-being and creativity. We also love surprises like live music, which gets children singing and dancing together. Practicing kindness is part of every activity, with little ones encouraged to use gentle words and say “thank you.”
