Good Shepherd Children's Center
Three year olds are curious, all day, every day. It’s that expected sense of curiosity that we use to teach them to learn and grow. In our classrooms your child is free to be anything from an actor to an architect. Make-believe play, hands-on activities, small and large motor activities are just a few ways that we keep kids actively learning and engaged. These activities are also done to encourage development in several important areas. Our teachers plan age-appropriate small group interactions to work closely with your child to accomplish developmentally appropriate tasks. Children attending must be three years old by September 1. Classes are held Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 9:00AM – 11:30AM September – May PRE-K/DAY CARE - 4YR/5YR OLD PROGRAM Kindergarten is an exhilarating move for children and parents alike. At Good Shepherd a large amount of what we have done in past years has all been leading up to it. But it is during our Pre-K program, for children age 4-5, that it becomes even more significant. Teachers plan activities to increase knowledge of fundamental educational concepts through discovery, exploration and participation. While we amplify the focus on mathematics, science and language we strive to present it a fun and engaging way. In our Pre-K class the children are presented with a wide variety of learning scenarios that help develop their self-esteem and social interactions as well. Our Pre-K class is held from September-May, Monday-Friday from 12:30-3:00. BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE Children from the time they start Kindergarten want to feel all grown up, but they also need coziness and safekeeping. So instead of just daycare, our Before and After School program is designed to maintain their growing curiosity in sports, art, music. Our School Age staff work hard to provide a wide variety of self-selected activities along with homework help. Good Shepherd provides before and after school care for children attending Joppatowne Elementary School. We also provide drop in care on days that school is closed. Drop-in care is available regardless of what elementary school your child attends. We also offer a full day summer camp. Our center is open Monday-Friday from 6am-6pm. The center provides breakfast and afternoon snack, the parents must provide lunch. Good Shepherd Children's Center is a licensed child care center in Joppa, MD. We will apply our knowledge, expertise, education, experience, and love for children in such a way that our infants and toddlers will flourish, feel loved, build self-esteem, learn, play, and truly enjoy their home away from home. Infants 'n More believes in educaring its infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. A combination of education and quality care will be extended to all children. The whole child will be acknowledged by applying developmentally appropriate practices that stimulate infants and toddlers. Infants 'n More will encourage social/emotional development, physical development (gross motor skills and fine motor skills), cognitive development, and language development. Sensory stimulation activities are important for all infants and more crucial for babies with disabilities or who have experienced challenging births. Our youngest babies will be presented with bold black and white patterns to stimulate vision. Various shapes, cards, and other paper designs will be presented to babies to help eyes grow strong. Rattles, bright toys, mirrors, music, nursery rhymes, story time, and stroller walks will also be available to our young babies. Babies will explore by creating handprints with non-toxic paints and begin simple art projects. Gross motor development to encourage pushing up and rolling over will be introduced. Tummy time will be a part of everyday activities for infants. Cognitive and fine motor skills will be taught by exposure to developmentally appropriate toys and activities. Our toddlers will participate in singing, circle time, body movement, nursery rhymes, story time, arts & crafts, outdoor fun, sing-a-longs, weekly themed activities, color and shape recognition, puzzle time, and more! Toddlers will have access to many interest areas, which will provide an opportunity for learning, creativity, and overall development. The toddler environment will include block play, dramatic play, toys and games, art, music, and a library area. These activities promote healthy development and social interaction within the classroom. Our preschool environment will include sensory activities, science, block play, art, computers, music, and library. We will, of course, incorporate free play into the children's daily routine as children learn through play. Our goal is to prepare your child for the next step in their future by helping them develop/hone their fine motor, gross motor, social, cognitive, language, and basic math skills. Some ways in which we will incorporate teaching these skills include circle time, practicing cutting with scissors, tracing shapes, using flash cards, counting, introducing the alphabet, and allowing them to use a computer to participate in educational games.
