Orquidea and her mother Alicia (who the kids affectionately call "Tia" and "Abuela") have been caring for our two children since we moved to the area in 2017. Our son transitioned to preschool this past fall, but our daughter is currently in the daycare. We could not be happier with the quality of care they’ve provided our children. We have had absolutely zero complaints or issues since day one. They are experienced, dependable, loving, competent, attentive, and all around just the nicest people. Tia and Abuela provide the kids with a morning snack and a home-cooked healthy lunch with lots of fruit and veggies which my kids absolutely love. The kids play indoors and outdoors and they often go on walks and to the nearby park. We credit Tia and Abuela with teaching our son all of the fundamentals that prepared him for a successful transition to preschool (e.g., colors, numbers, letters, imaginative play, vocabulary, lots of songs, how to color, use scissors, how to share/take turns, and encouraged a love for reading etc.). As other reviews have noted, Tia has a medical background which is immensely helpful. Soon after my son started in the daycare, Tia alerted us that he had a tongue tie which had gone unnoticed for 18 months. We were able to get it checked out to see whether it would have any impact on his speech development. When my daughter started in the daycare at 5 months, she was resisting the bottle, but after a couple weeks, they had success in getting her to bottle feed without tears. Our son was in a center-based daycare prior to coming to Sunny Day so we have a point of comparison. The individualized attention and quality of care by far surpasses what we experienced in a center-based care. No kid gets lost in the shuffle which is at times how we felt when he was at the center-based day care. We know that Tia and Abuela are attentive to the individual needs of each child and support their social-emotional development and academic learning in the best way possible. Our kids not only have a strong bond with Tia and Abuela, but they have formed close friendships with the other kids in the daycare. We feel so lucky and immensely grateful to have found such a wonderful place for our children. We always tell people they are the best part of having moved to this area.

Orquidea and her family have lovingly taken care of our children for the past 6 years. She is currently caring for our 6 month old. Orquidea provides a loving, caring and safe environment for our children and, even though it has been difficult to drop off each of our children as babies, I feel so comfortable and lucky to have found such a caring and competent caregiver for our children. My older boys are in school now, but they formed solid attachments to Orquidea and her family, and they love to still visit with them. Orquidea provides indoor and outdoor play and brings the kids to the park down the street. She provides healthy and varied food for the children. Orquidea is well versed in feeding breastfed babies with bottles. She was also a trained medical doctor and is knowledgable when illnesses happen. Our children love Orquidea and her extended family, including her mother, Alicia. We feel so lucky to have such loving and competent care for our children.

Thanks for giving me an opportunity to provide a review for Orquidea Escoto. She cared for my daughter from 3-months old to 4 years old. She would still be by childcare provider if I resided in the community. I relocated to Prince George's County in 2013. Ms. Escoto is an excellent caregiver. She provided love, kindness, teaching, and safety for my Demi every day. Because of her medical knowledge, I was never concerned whenever Demi was ill. She would know things that I didn't know and would be proactive. Demi is asthmatic, so there were times we she needed that extra care. Once, Demi was hospitalized and needed emergent surgery, Ms. Escoto was there for Demi and my family 100%. I will never forget that. She even came over to my house to help me with Demi at the end of the day after she was done working with the other children she provided care for. That's how devoted and committed she is to the care of children. She has always been very clean and organized. My Demi learned a great deal at an early age because Ms. Escoto taught her well. She helped her with Spanish and encouraged reading for my child who became an above average reader by the time she reached kindergarten. I believe the academics my child is currently achieving all stemmed from her beginnings with Ms. Escoto. Any parent would be blessed to have her as their caregiver. Orquidea is caring and kind. She cared our daughter as if she was hers. She was a medical doctor in her home country. She keeps her house pristine clean and her mother who is a retired caregiver and her children were also very nice. My daughter remembers the days at Orquidea with lots of fond memories. Highly recommend!

We absolutely loved Orquidea and always felt comfortable knowing our daughter was in her care. She knows a lot about children's development and actually helped us understand our first child better. Although the children's space is in the basement, they welcome the kids in their home, so sometimes the kids play in the living room upstairs. Orquidea would bring the kids out walking in the neighborhood and to a nearby park, so our daughter was in great shape and learned early how to cross a street and interact with neighbors. Orquidea also provides excellent healthy food for the kids, lots of fruits and veggies.

Ms. Escoto is amazing! I never had a worry about leaving my oldest and then my second daughter with her. She is caring, loving, incredibly cautious and (let's not forget) brilliant! She was a medical doctor in her home country and always knew when my children were not feeling their best and how to handle it. How lucky were were!?! She is also a pleasant wonderful person, generally. My children LOVED her, and we still consider her part of our family. You can do no better than Ms. Escoto!
