Orquidea and her mother Alicia (who the kids affectionately call "Tia" and "Abuela") have been caring for our two children since we moved to the area in 2017. Our son transitioned to preschool this past fall, but our daughter is currently in the daycare. We could not be happier with the quality of care they’ve provided our children. We have had absolutely zero complaints or issues since day one. They are experienced, dependable, loving, competent, attentive, and all around just the nicest people. Tia and Abuela provide the kids with a morning snack and a home-cooked healthy lunch with lots of fruit and veggies which my kids absolutely love. The kids play indoors and outdoors and they often go on walks and to the nearby park. We credit Tia and Abuela with teaching our son all of the fundamentals that prepared him for a successful transition to preschool (e.g., colors, numbers, letters, imaginative play, vocabulary, lots of songs, how to color, use scissors, how to share/take turns, and encouraged a love for reading etc.).
As other reviews have noted, Tia has a medical background which is immensely helpful. Soon after my son started in the daycare, Tia alerted us that he had a tongue tie which had gone unnoticed for 18 months. We were able to get it checked out to see whether it would have any impact on his speech development. When my daughter started in the daycare at 5 months, she was resisting the bottle, but after a couple weeks, they had success in getting her to bottle feed without tears.
Our son was in a center-based daycare prior to coming to Sunny Day so we have a point of comparison. The individualized attention and quality of care by far surpasses what we experienced in a center-based care. No kid gets lost in the shuffle which is at times how we felt when he was at the center-based day care. We know that Tia and Abuela are attentive to the individual needs of each child and support their social-emotional development and academic learning in the best way possible. Our kids not only have a strong bond with Tia and Abuela, but they have formed close friendships with the other kids in the daycare. We feel so lucky and immensely grateful to have found such a wonderful place for our children. We always tell people they are the best part of having moved to this area.
