Welcome to Apphia Family Child Care At Apphia Family Child Care, we’re a warm, nurturing home-based program located in Germantown, MD, dedicated to growing confident, curious and kind children. We serve children from [infants/toddlers/preschool ages ] and partner with families to build a strong foundation for school and life. Our Curriculum & Approach We use a developmentally-appropriate curriculum that balances structured learning and hands-on play. Through a blend of guided activities and free-exploration time, children build key skills in language, early literacy, math, science, social-emotional learning, and physical development. Every day includes richly engaging learning centers (for example: a language & book corner, sensory/math table, dramatic-play area, art-and-creation zone, outdoor gross-motor space) that encourage children to explore, ask questions, collaborate, and try new things. We believe play is the child’s “work.” While children are building towers, dressing dolls, mixing water play, or role-playing pretend scenarios—they are learning about shapes, numbers, cause & effect, self-regulation, communication and community. As part of our curriculum we incorporate daily reading, songs, conversations, and small-group moments where children practice vocabulary, express ideas, and build confidence speaking with peers and adults. We monitor each child’s progress through observations and portfolio documentation, and share regular updates with families so you know how your child is growing and what’s coming next. Social-Emotional & Self-Help: Guided group interactions, sharing, caring for friends, practicing confidence and independence (like putting on jackets, washing hands, helping with cleanup). Creative Arts & Expression: Art, music, movement, pretend play—children express themselves, explore materials and develop fine-motor skills. Gross Motor & Outdoor Play: Regular outdoor play, running, climbing, balancing, exploring the natural world to build strength and coordination. Family and Community Integration: We bring in family traditions, multicultural books and experiences, and occasionally invite special guests or nature walks to expand children’s understanding of the world.
