Bel Air Presbyterian Church Preschool
Welcome you to the Bel Air Presbyterian Preschool website. We hope that through this site you can find information about our programs, our curriculum, our history, our community as well as our church family. Since 1979 our purpose has been to provide a safe, loving, nurturing environment that preserves the experience of childhood through a carefully planned Christian program. We provide a quality, developmental curriculum that fosters the spiritual, social, emotional, motor, approaches to learning, academic and cognitive growth of each child. Our curriculum is emergent and meets the needs of the individual child. Through project based learning, children gain knowledge and discover their world through hands-on experience. In an environment of acceptance and love, children grow in the nurture of God and encounter His grace and love. We wish for children to experience and develop curiosity, imagination, self-esteem, to offer opportunities to expand on their knowledge and to be encouraged and supported as they face new developmental milestones. We value and have a commitment to excellence in Early Childhood Education and seek to be on the growing edge of quality in our field. Our commitment as a staff and Preschool Committee is to come alongside you as parents and to support your role as you face the early years of your child’s growth and development. This commitment extends to both Bel Air Presbyterian Church members and community members. It would be a pleasure to get to know you. Circle of Children Preschool
Through the years, Circle has developed a quality, well-planned curriculum constructed with the developmental needs, interests and skills of the children in mind. Our daily program offers arts and crafts, drama, dance and movement activities, storytelling, organized games, music education, and out-door play. The school provides an environment full of fun and excitement, where children live and learn together in an atmosphere where children want to learn. Children are encouraged to explore the world through their own senses and take from their environment that which is important to their particular stage of development. We guide children in developing inner control, learned through understanding rather than through fear. Each day includes time when children practice making decisions choosing from among the various activities offered. We also set times daily for the children to be together for group activities. Parent Involvement We believe that parents are a child's first and most important teacher. We offer parents guidance in understanding how children grow and learn. Circle is a bridge between the child's place at home and his/her place in the world. We encourage parents to participate in the school - to share their talents, hobbies, and time. Parents are welcome to volunteer for special projects or just reading a story. Throughout the year, committee positions are available for numerous events and activities, allowing parents an opportunity to be involved beyond the classroom. Parent meetings are held on a regular basis. Attendance at these meetings allows the opportunity to communicate with the teachers regarding the school program and provides a time when issues can be raised that are important in the lives of the students. Philosophy Circle of Children Preschool is concerned with the development of the whole child: physical, mental, and emotional. Circle's philosophy for early childhood education is based on the following concepts: We believe the preschool years are fund

Westwood Presbyterian Church Preschool

When a child enters our school, our first priority is to make each one feel comfortable, safe and loved. From this place of trust, children have the... confidence to explore the classroom, interact with classmates, develop friendships, problem solve with materials and friends, challenge themselves with a new task and develop not only socially and emotionally, but intellectually, physically and creatively. At Westwood Presbyterian Church Preschool we recognize that every child is an individual with different needs, interests, strengths and vulnerabilities. Therefore we provide a classroom environment that encourages all children to pursue their interests, nurture their strengths and work on areas of challenge. We believe that children learn through play and offer a wide range of hands-on activities. Music, movement, gardening, cooking, sign language classes, indoor and outdoor free play, art and literature are large features of our curriculum. As we are preparing our children not only for kindergarten but for life, our daily interactions and routines encourage children to develop a sense of responsibility and independence; an understanding of their role as valued members of the school community; and a respect for others and the environment. At WPC Preschool we also recognize that a diverse community broadens and enhances the experience of all of us. We embrace diversity in all its forms and welcome children of all backgrounds and abilities.

Hill & Dale Family Learning Center

Hill & Dale Family Learning Center is an outgrowth of a privately owned preschool operated in Pacific Palisades for over thirty years. When the... owners, Eleanor and Lee Kendall, no longer wished to continue operating their school, a group of Hill & Dale parents decided to reorganize it as a non-profit corporation run by a parent-community Board. Inspired by the strong educational philosophy of the Kendalls, we established the school with the following objectives: To run a top quality educational child care program based on a strong guiding philosophy; To attract and develop a staff extensively trained in early childhood education and development; To compensate that staff with competitive wages and benefits; and To establish and nurture a strong parent education component which encourages parents to take an active role in understanding their child's development and participating in their education. We opened our doors in September 1979 at 1512 Pearl Street in Santa Monica with 10 children. Less than a year later, we were at full enrollment with 25 children and have had a continual waiting list since that time. Judith Brunk became Executive Director, a position she still holds today. Hill & Dale moved its operations in August of 1984 to the business development at Colorado Place (Yahoo Center). This move into larger facilities offered new horizons for promoting quality educational child care and facilitating parenting education and skills. Hill & Dale at Yahoo Center has also been a highly successful experiment in developer-assisted creation of new child care facilities in the Santa Monica community. As the program grew and the demand for infant care became greater, we opened our second Center in August of 1987 in a converted firehouse owned by the City of Santa Monica at the west end of Clover Park on Ocean Park Blvd. Hill & Dale holds a lease with the city for use of the building and Watt Industries, a local developer, committed funding and construction assistance necessary for building renovation and set u
