We offer full-day and half-day Preschool Programs, AfterCare options, Saturday Kids Club, Summer Program and a variety of Enrichment Classes. Our state-of-the-art facility – located in the heart of Del Ray – is designed as a modern, bright, home-like space where students can learn, play and grow in very comfortable, inspiring atmosphere. ChildSpace follows The Creative Curriculum for Preschool. This award-winning program is based on the premise that the best way to teach young children is through a combination of positive teacher/child interactions, within an appropriate planned schedule, in an inspiring environment. The Creative Curriculum for Preschool is fully aligned with the Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework and State early learning standards. ChildSpace offers a very low student to teacher ratio – ensuring the individualized attention each child needs to thrive. We believe learning in small groups of peers allows children to gain confidence and become independent thinkers. Everyday learning activities are built around the interests of each student and the group as a whole. The preschool years are the best time to introduce children to a wide variety of subjects – while children’s ability to absorb new information is at its peak. Our goal is to provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum that prepares children for kindergarten and beyond…all while having fun.

Christian Center Ministries

Here at Christian Center School, you will find a qualified,... dedicated, loving staff that has a mission to provide an excellent, Christ-centered education for your child. Each child is treated with dignity and respect, and is of utmost importance to us. CCS utilizes the A Beka curriculum in each subject for all students from Pre-Kindergarten (three year old) through eigth grade. The A Beka curriculum has been developed, tested, and refined over a period of over 50 years in the classrooms of Pensacola Christian Academy and schools like CCS throughout the nation. The purpose of the A Beka curriculum reflects the goals of CCS, which are to lead young people to Christ and train them in the Bible, Christian character, and traditional subject matter so they have a firm foundation from which to evaluate the present and make proper decisions for the future. The end result is that your child develops a Biblical world view. Bible, language, mathematics, art, music, safety, health, and manners are taught beginning in PreK. Social studies is taught in K5. History and geography are taught beginning in first grade. Starting in the 6th grade, we use ACSI math, to further enrich the curriculum. CCS has an international flavor. There are children here from around the globe. The D.C. area is very international to start with, and our school reflects that. We also are currently helping in projects around the world. We are collecting toys for children in DC, we are taking school supplies to Nicaragua, and will take food baskets to the needy in our area. We would love for you to come by and visit us. We are conveniently located near Fort Belvoir and Kingstowne. We are two blocks east of the intersection of Van Dorn Street and Franconia Road, in Alexandria.

Washington St. United Methodist Church

Washington Street United Methodist Church Preschool's primary... ministry is teaching God's unconditional love and acceptance, and learning to live lovingly. We provide a child-centered, nurturing environment that enables young children to develop to their fullest potential, socially, emotionally, spiritually, physically, and cognitively. Our Preschool was established in 1991 as a ministry of the Washington Street United Methodist Church and serves children two and a half to five years of age. The educational program reflects our philosophy of learning through play by using weekly themes to introduce and reinforce units of study. Using themes allows our teaching staff to convey subject matter in a concrete and creative manner to make your child's experience in school fun, interesting and growth providing. Monthly newsletters and lesson plans are distributed by classroom teachers to help you monitor your child's progress and joy of learning. A developmentally appropriate, hands-on program enables teachers to incorporate language experiences daily, allowing children to grow their vocabulary naturally. A balanced schedule is achieved through focused, quiet activities such as circle time, table activities, and story time. Quiet activities are then followed by opportunities for exploration during art projects, water and sand table activities, block play, music and movement, science center activities, and dramatic play. Washington Street United Methodist Church Preschool accepts families of all racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. As a church sponsored program, Christian traditions are emphasized. However, our program also embraces and celebrates other cultural and religious tradition. By sharing customs, ideas, traditions, and meanings, we help promote understanding and acceptance. Washington Street UMC Preschool is program operated as a ministry of the Washington Street United Methodist Church. It operates under the supervision of the Preschool Board which is made up of church members, parent and teacher representatives, the Director of the Preschool, and the WSUMC Pastor. The Preschool Board makes policies, sets tuition and fees, and oversees the curriculum for the preschool. Our central message is one of God's unconditional love. We believe that each person is a child of God. Our ministry involves helping children to learn to live lovingly. Each child at our preschool will have every opportunity to develop socially, emotionally, spiritually, physically, and intellectually to his or her fullest potential. To support spiritual growth, the Preschool holds Chapel on a monthly basis led by the Preschool Director. Chapel consists of age appropriate stories, songs, and prayer. As children play with each other - They learn to see other children's point of view and begin to become empathetic and caring. - They learn to use language in new ways to describe their play, express their needs and wants, and to interact with others. - They develop their muscles, balance, stamina and coordination. Special attention is given to each child's abilities and interests, using his or her strengths to foster development in all areas. Through art, music, drama, and play, children enrolled in our program are encouraged to expand their imagination, develop confidence in their abilities, and build a strong self-image.

Bush Hill Day School

Our Goals Our school is a supplement to the home and a place where... the young child can feel cared for, protected, and secure. A stimulating environment for learning is created, an environment in which the child has an opportunity to develop a sense of achievement and self-worth. Sharing with others and caring for them is emphasized and encouraged. The relationship between child and teacher is one of loving acceptance. Respect for others is carefully nurtured. Classes Classes are offered for 2, 3 and 4-year-old children, and for 4-year-olds who have turned 5. Those 3- and 4-year-olds who have reached the appropriate birthday by September 30 of the current year are eligible to enroll. The cut-off birthday for 2-year-olds is June 30. Two-year-old children may attend two mornings; 2 1/2-year-olds may attend two or three mornings; 3-year-old children may attend two or three mornings; and 4-year-olds may attend three or five mornings per week. Warm, Caring, and Fun Environment Our Day School provides a warm, friendly, and FUN environment on a daily basis. All of our classes are blessed with Honorary Grandmothers, retired ladies in our church who enjoy spending time with our children on a regular basis. In addition to our daily scheduled activities, highlights throughout the year include Lunch Bunch (offered once a week), Day School Sunday, firefighters visiting the school, Dad's Day, Santa visiting the school and Breakfast with Santa, Christmas pageant, Dr. Seuss' birthday, Simply Science (six-week after-school Enrichment Program offered to our 4-year-olds), Ice Cream Social, Wacky Wednesday and Topsy Turvy Thursday, professional storytellers, Mother's Day, graduation, end-of-year-picnic, and our optional Lunch Box School (eight days of school in June). Our children and teachers have a “ton of fun” together throughout the school year! Curriculum Ample time is provided for directed free play in which children choose the activity in which they wish to participate. Social skills such as sharing, taking turns, and getting along with others are stressed. Opportunities are provided for the children to express themselves creatively in play, art, drama, and rhythms. The curriculum is designed to develop the visual and auditory skills necessary for a firm foundation in reading and number readiness. A well-planned curriculum leads children into a wide range of subject matter that challenges their capabilities and allows them opportunities to discover and explore. Spiritual Development Christian nurture occurs in daily experiences in the classroom. Children learn forgiveness by being forgiven; they learn trust by finding adults to be trustworthy and fair; and they learn God's love through persons who are loving and accepting. Prayers before snack are learned in each class. The four-year-old classes attend a regular Chapel service. Chapel contributes to the children's understanding of themselves as a part of God's world. When chapel is held, everyone in the group participates without exception.
