Temple Beth Hillel Nursery School

Beth Hillel Day School develops children’s academic skills, individual talents and Jewish identities within an inclusive school community affiliated... with the Reform Movement. Beth Hillel Day School educates and nurtures children from age 2 through sixth grade, providing an educational experience that immerses students in critical thinking, problem solving, creative expression and collaborative learning. Our small classes allow teachers to appreciate and challenge each child while nurturing their natural curiosity. Our joyful, hands-on approach inspires students to be self-directed and confident learners who willingly take on new challenges. Jewish values inform every aspect of our curriculum so students emerge with a strong Jewish identity that enables them to make wise choices as adolescents and adults. Students learn Hebrew using immersion methodology, developing a personal connection to the state of Israel and appreciation for Hebrew as the language of the Jewish people. In our warm, caring community, students love to learn. Children discover and develop their talents through classes in art, music, physical education and technology. They create original, imaginative work in the visual and performing arts. Through academics, performances, school assemblies, and social action projects, every child has an opportunity to be a leader. The school seeks students who are motivated to learn, faculty who are engaged in professional learning and thoughtful reflection, and parents who work in partnership with the school. Beth Hillel Day School’s nursery program is a developmental program for children ages 2-4 and allows children to learn through play, hands-on activities and art. Children are encouraged to make choices, to actively participate in both inside and outside activities, and to experience a sense of security and success. Through independent play time and modeling in the classroom, students learn skills to help them grow and develop the skills they will need to succeed in life. All classrooms provide space for art, science, cooking, fine motor development, dramatic play, and manipulatives, in addition to a library and a quiet space for children if they need. Our nursery program puts a strong emphasis on developing students’ SOCIAL and EMOTIONAL skills; children learn how to resolve conflicts with others, how to play cooperatively, how to solve problems, and how to accept disappointment. Teachers emphasize the art of conversation and the meaning of friendship, all while encouraging patience and manners. While students have opportunities for choice in freedom of activities inside and outside, the structure of our program gives children a sense of safety through the predictable routine. Children have opportunities to develop their GROSS MOTOR and FINE MOTOR skills. Particular importance is placed on gross motor skills like jumping and pedaling a bike and fine motor skills like holding a crayon and beginning scissor skills. Finally, we pay attention to developing children’s COGNITIVE growth. Children develop beginning number and letter sense and learn important skills such as focus, self-regulation and self-control. Valmont Academy

Valmont Academy was founded back in September of 1978 as Valley Montessori School. Valley Montessori School was started after a number of years of... research, debates, discussions, and even a few arguments about the few successes and the many failures of the public school system. A system that consistently allowed children to pass through the grades without learning how to read, write, or to do simple math. Paul and Kathy decided that they could do something about it, on a small scale, by opening a school that would provide its students with a foundation that would carry them through life. It took over three years to raise the necessary money, locate a facility that would satisfy the many state and local codes, and to pass all of the licensing requirements, but on July 4, 1978, Valley Montessori School opened its doors with twelve students. The school grew to a student body of eighty-five students. The larger number of students gave the school a larger cash flow, that in turn allowed for improved physical conditions, but it caused a loss in academic success. As such, it was decided to make a gradual decrease in the number of students enrolled. It is our belief that Education includes three basic components: 1) the development of the child's self-esteem, his or her ability to see himself or herself as a capable and independent human being, 2) academic excellence 3) caring environment. Capable and Independent: Success in school is directly related to the degree to which children believe that they are capable. It is critical that we develop within each child , a sense of responsibility, independence, and most importantly, self-esteem. Academic Excellence: Academic Excellence should be anchored on the essential skills needed for lifelong learning. Not only the fundamental skill of reading, writing, arithmetic, but also on the developing strong work habits and strong study habits. To straighten and propel these skills it is extremely important to develop a dynamic sense of love and curiosity towards learning. Caring Environment: A caring environment enhances the students ability to pursue academic excellence. It is our intent to provide an environment that is safe, wholesome, warm, and caring. An environment that radiates the positive feelings of home. Valmont Academy is a licensed child care center in North Hollywood, CA with the license issued by the L. A.
