Youth House Community Center Preschool
The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge opened in 1951 and has served the needs of thousands of children and adults alike, offering a variety of enriching, recreational and educational opportunities for members of the La Cañada community and surrounding areas. The La Cañada Flintridge Community Center (LCFCC) Preschool is an extension of the Community Center, offering a half-day (with extended care options) program for children ages three through five. The school year begins in September and ends in June. The LCFCC Preschool provides a warm, safe and nurturing atmosphere with a wide variety of age-appropriate activities designed to promote the social, intellectual, physical and emotional aspects of learning. Teachers create an environment for the children to learn through active exploration and discovery. Manipulative toys, creative experiences, group time, floor toys, blocks, paints, play dough, sand and yard play are examples of what is offered on a daily basis. Particular emphasis is placed on helping to develop social skills such as listening, talking, helping, sharing and negotiating. Letters and numbers are introduced through various age-appropriate ways in each classroom program. A love of reading is encouraged with daily stories, parent guest readers, and a library cart that allows children to select and check out books on a regular basis. Weekly music, a garden program, seasonal activities such as a pumpkin patch, and special visitors including the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, Reptile Family, and local Sheriff and Fire Departments provide for additional enrichment during the school year. A six-week Summer Camp Program is also offered in June and July. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to be a part of their child’s experience at LCFCC Preschool. e believe that we can best meet the needs of our children by developing strong communication with our parents. Regularly scheduled parent-teacher meetings, a school newsletter, and daily information posted in the classrooms help facilitate this objective. Events such as Orientation Days, Father’s Saturday Morning and Mommy & Me parties provide opportunities for family participation. A very active and supportive Parent Board organizes many special activities, parent coffee socials, holiday events, and fundraisers throughout the year. Look for our annual Western Round-Up fundraiser in March, a day of games and fun for the whole family and surrounding community.

Crescenta-Canada Nursery School

Our goal at CCNS is to provide rich experiences and opportunities for... children to develop sound relationships with other youngsters and to provide a nurturing environment where children can develop good feelings about themselves, their abilities, and the world around them. Our school offers a place where you can share in your child's nursery school experience, meet other parents who are interested in participating and sharing in the same way...and who can actually have a hand in the running of the school. Our school is Christian based, and is non-denominational (we lease space from our host church). Our Christian practices include prayer before snacks, the celebration of holidays, and periodically the pastor of our host church will share bible stories with the children. Our School is for children between the ages of 2 years 9 month through 5 years. Our classes meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We now offer an optional 5 day a week program for the Busy Bear class (4 year olds). Each School day is from 9 to 12:00. The school year, including holidays, corresponds with that of Glendale and/or La Canada Unified School District. All children must be toilet trained. Every effort is made to balance classes according to gender. The class size is 15-20 children per class. Each class has a teacher and two to three parent aides, which makes our school one of very few to have an adult to child ratio of 1 to 5.

Child Educational Center

The Child Educational Center, part of the JPL and Caltech... communities, provides early care and education with a pioneering focus on heart-centered, progressive education and outdoor learning at seven sites in La Canada and Pasadena, California. The CEC offers full- and part- time programs for children up to five years at its La Canada site, the Cooperative Preschool at Caltech, as well as the after-school programs and summer camps for children in grades K – 6. Through consulting and outreach services and The Outdoor Classroom Project® initiative, the CEC is transforming the way early childhood educational programs provide care to children across California and beyond. The CEC’s Infant-Toddler and Preschool program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The Child Educational Center’s (CEC) Cooperative Preschool at Caltech, previously available only to families with Caltech or JPL affiliations, is now opening its enrollment to all community families. The Cooperative Preschool operates a morning (8:30-11:30am) program for 9 months each year, beginning in September and running through May. This program utilizes curriculum that is stimulating and challenging, as well as nurturing and supportive of each child's learning style. Outdoor play and exploration is an integral component of each day, encouraging children to develop knowledge and love of the natural world. The daily schedule provides for activities specifically geared to the various developmental levels of children in the program, as well as opportunities for children to interact, teach, and learn from one another. As a cooperative, parents take turns participating as assistant teachers under the guidance of professional CEC staff. This combination of professional teachers and parent volunteers creates a ratio of 1 adult to every 4 children or better. The Cooperative Preschool at Caltech embodies the same philosophical approach and mission as the CEC. Enrollment is open throughout the year on a space-available basis. Listed tuition rates vary depending on full- or part-time scheduling, if you work for Caltech or JPL, and other factors.
