The Manor Montessori School

About Our School Founded in 1962, The Manor Montessori School was the... first Montessori school established in the State of Maryland. It is also one of the few Montessori schools to have constructed its own facility, in Potomac, which was specifically designed for children working in a Montessori environment. The Manor Montessori School provides a warm and nurturing atmosphere for children between the ages of two and nine. Campuses Our main campus, located in Potomac (off of Falls Road), offers classes at the Toddler (age 2) level, the Primary (ages 3-6) level and the Elementary (ages 6-9) level. Our second campus, located in Rockville (near Tuckerman Lane), offers classes at the Toddler (age 2) level and the Primary (ages 3-6) level. Our third campus, located in Bethesda, offers classes at the Toddler (age 2) level and the Primary (ages 3-6) level. Programs The Twos program is for the two year old child who need not be potty trained. It is available five days per week from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon or 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at all three locations. It is a loving and nurturing environment, as it is the child's first school experience. The Primary program is for those children who are three years old by September and potty-trained. At the Primary level we offer a half-day program from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or a full-day program from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., five days per week. The Elementary program is a full-day program from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., five days per week. In addition, we offer extended daycare hours from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for children ages 3 through 9. Transportation Limited bus service is available to our Potomac campus. The bus route includes sections of Potomac and Bethesda. Extended Day Before and after school care is available on a full time, part time, or an occasional basis for ages 3 through 9. The hours are 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The three year old children are required by the Health Department to have a nap/rest period, which takes place after lunch. If a 3 year old child does not nap, after a short rest period, the staff member will allow the child to join her at a table to look at books, draw, paint, or do puzzles. The four year old children who no longer need a nap are placed in the enrichment program where Montessori materials are offered along with art, science, music, cooking, and story reading. Between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., all children from all classes are combined to eat a snack at 3:00 p.m. We offer a relaxed atmosphere with story time, arts, crafts, music, and dance. We also offer free play indoors or outdoors until the children are picked up. We ask that parents arrive by 5:45 p.m. to assure that pick up will be on time. A late charge will be applied for any child picked up after 6:00 p.m.

Temple Sinai Nursery School

At Temple Sinai Nursery School (TSNS), we believe in nurturing the... individuality of each child. We see children as competent individuals who flourish in a joyful early childhood setting that encourages freedom of expression, focuses on building strong social-emotional skills, and promotes self-confidence through active hands-on learning. The philosophy of TSNS is based on the theories of Piaget, Vygotsky, Erikson, Gardner, the Bank Street Model and constructivist education. We are also inspired by the philosophy of the Reggio Emilia Schools in Italy. Our program is imbued with Jewish values that emphasize and promote kindness (g'milut chasadim), doing good deeds (mitzvot) and taking care of our world (tikkun olam). At TSNS, we believe that play is the primary vehicle through which learning progresses in the early years. Sensitivity to the needs of parents of young children always underpins our efforts. In addition to providing an excellent developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum, we take pride in being a part of the larger Temple Sinai community and helping parents foster a positive sense of Jewish identity in their children. A warm and welcoming parent community is at the heart of our program; parents are involved in the daily life of the program and take leadership roles at the Nursery School. The Parents Association plans and supports several family and school-wide events each year such as the Family Fall Holidays Festival, the annual Winter Family Concert, the school-wide Hanukkah Celebration and Model Seder, and the annual Spring Auction. NS GardenThis program maintains the highest standards of early childhood education. We have achieved accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and we are a Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning Commended School. Small classes, and a physical environment that includes a kitchen designed specifically for children and teachers to cook, vegetable and flower garden, motor room, and "investigation room" where children have hands-on experiences with science and art, complement our core program. Every morning, we welcome children into our extended playground that sets the stage for imaginative play and physical development, with its bike path, climbing equipment, and rock and sand gardens. "The city school with the country playground" Every year at our Parents Evening we share the philosophy of our school through word play and photographs of every child. Temple Sinai Nursery School is a child care center in Washington, DC. We are open from 6:00am to 6:00pm. To learn more about us, please send us an email.

Montessori School of Chevy Chase

The Montessori School of Chevy Chase was founded in 1999 and serves... approximately 60 children from many diverse cultures and backgrounds each year. Our school enjoys a reputation for academic excellence and active parent involvement. Our founder/director of the school, Marlene Cherry, holds an AMI Primary Montessori Diploma, a Masters Degree in Montessori Education and a BS in Education. All teachers are Montessori certified and take ongoing classes to further their education. The Montessori School of Chevy Chase is a member of the International Montessori Council and the American Montessori Society. Overview Montessori is an educational approach focusing on independence, respect for a child’s natural development, and freedom (within limits). It is founded on the premise that while children develop in different ways and at different rates, they do so in a defined sequence. The Montessori approach holds that young children have a natural drive to understand the world around them and they can best learn through self-teaching in carefully prepared environments, under the guidance of a caring teacher. Montessori Teachers Montessori teachers help individual children find challenges appropriate for their skill level. While traditional teachers tend to act as leaders and organizers, Montessori teachers serve more as a guides and facilitators. It is their job to provide positive reinforcement and steer children towards challenging activities while respecting their freedom of choice. Montessori Classrooms Classrooms in Montessori schools are specially designed to spark curiosity, minimize unnecessary failure and promote feelings of joy when achievement occurs. Children start by focusing on concrete and manipulative tasks then shift to more abstract tasks as knowledge and proficiency increase. In a Montessori classroom, the goal is to stimulate the desire for self exploration and understanding. Our Program Child The Montessori School of Chevy Chase provides quality learning and growth opportunities for children between the ages of 18 months and 6 years old. All of our programs fully embrace the Montessori method of teaching which includes an emphasis on self-directed learning, mixed age group classrooms and building independence & confidence.
