Wild Poppy Studio
Wild Poppy Studio is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach that traces back to Reggio, Italy. There are five pillars that truly define this approach: *Respect for children *Family and community involvement *Emergent curriculum *Teachers as co-constructivists *Environment as a third teacher The staff at Wild Poppy Studio sincerely believes that children are capable and intelligent human beings. And out of respect for all human beings, we stress the importance of listening. If you listen to children carefully, you will find they are full of complex ideas and carefully processed hypotheses. They also have a natural desire to work with their peers, are more just and fair than we may give them credit for and are certainly more empathetic than some may believe them to be. Children are capable of true analytical and scientific thought. When given the respect and space to express this, the learning opportunities are endless! To love learning, you must love school. Wild Poppy Studio is a school that cherishes its environment and respects its tools. We understand that children need to dig. They need to run. And they need to climb. Outside our studio, we've created a safe and grassy environment for our children to run barefoot. We've installed a play structure where they can exert energy in a fun and productive way. We've grown and will nurture a garden full of mud and edible organic herbs, vegetables and fruits with your children. We have also transformed our classroom and part of our outdoor space into an art studio fit for the most creative of minds. We believe that children deserve the highest-quality materials and tools to express their ideas, ones that we ourselves would use. Our studio rooms feature light exploration, the highest-quality clays, tempera, acrylic, watercolor paints, stippling, fan, and filbert brushes, beautiful glass beads, pastels and more. We also serve exclusively vegan and organic snacks, using all-natural ingredients including avocado, blue corn tortilla chips, vegetarian chili and figs. A palette of foods is just as important as a palette of paints! At Wild Poppy Studio, your children's overall well-being and learning come first. Wild Poppy Studio admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges and activities generally accorded or made available to students of the school. Wild Poppy Studio does not discriminate against any employee, applicant for employment, independent contractor, or any other person because of race, color ancestry, national origin, age, or gender.

Maohr Hatorah Preschool

The first years of your child’s life are crucial to his/her development of personality and intellect. This is a period during which learning takes... place at an amazing pace. Our goal is to provide a sense of security, love and many creative opportunities to help your child grow during this stage of intense learning. Our curriculum is designed to help your child grow in areas of gross, fine motor, and cognitive development. Maohr Preschool program is established to meet the needs of families desiring a warm, nurturing preschool experience for their children in a safe and secure environment. Our classes integrate the High/Scope curriculum, using active learning to promote cognitive, social, emotional, physical and creative development. We use a developmental approach to learning; our instruction considers the student’s developmental level. Our goal is to find a level that challenges our students, but does not intimidate or bore them. Teaching in this way produces children who are confident in their ability to learn. We also promote individual learning. Though children develop in certain predictable ways, all children are unique. All students have their own strengths and weaknesses. Maohr Hatorah tries to respect and meet these individual needs. The teaching staff is the foundation of our quality program. All of our classes are taught by educated teachers who far exceed minimum licensing requirements. Our teachers continue to participate in ongoing professional development and work in teams to provide quality experiences for children. With our experience, enthusiasm and love for every child, we make the preschool experience both enjoyable and rewarding.

Hill & Dale Family Learning Center

Hill & Dale Family Learning Center is an outgrowth of a privately owned preschool operated in Pacific Palisades for over thirty years. When the... owners, Eleanor and Lee Kendall, no longer wished to continue operating their school, a group of Hill & Dale parents decided to reorganize it as a non-profit corporation run by a parent-community Board. Inspired by the strong educational philosophy of the Kendalls, we established the school with the following objectives: To run a top quality educational child care program based on a strong guiding philosophy; To attract and develop a staff extensively trained in early childhood education and development; To compensate that staff with competitive wages and benefits; and To establish and nurture a strong parent education component which encourages parents to take an active role in understanding their child's development and participating in their education. We opened our doors in September 1979 at 1512 Pearl Street in Santa Monica with 10 children. Less than a year later, we were at full enrollment with 25 children and have had a continual waiting list since that time. Judith Brunk became Executive Director, a position she still holds today. Hill & Dale moved its operations in August of 1984 to the business development at Colorado Place (Yahoo Center). This move into larger facilities offered new horizons for promoting quality educational child care and facilitating parenting education and skills. Hill & Dale at Yahoo Center has also been a highly successful experiment in developer-assisted creation of new child care facilities in the Santa Monica community. As the program grew and the demand for infant care became greater, we opened our second Center in August of 1987 in a converted firehouse owned by the City of Santa Monica at the west end of Clover Park on Ocean Park Blvd. Hill & Dale holds a lease with the city for use of the building and Watt Industries, a local developer, committed funding and construction assistance necessary for building renovation and set u

St. Timothy School Pre-K

St. Timothy School is a Pre-K through 8th Grade Catholic School that was established in 1958. For over 50 years, we have educated generations of... children, instilling them with character, compassion and values for life. Under the nurturing guidance of our dedicated faculty, children at St. Timothy School are challenged academically and taught character-building skills that will support them their entire lives. We understand that the years between four and fourteen are the most intensely productive and vital learning years in a child's development. We know that early educational experiences help shape the kind of learners our students will become. Therefore, we focus on developing a spirit of inquiry and a joy in learning in our students, which helps them realize and build on their academic potential. St Timothy School is a small school, deliberately. Small class sizes enable us to focus on each child as an individual, to understand what motivates them and to support their academic development. Our classes foster a feeling of family ? a supportive climate of trust and understanding, community-based values, and teamwork. In this environment, children form positive and enduring relationships with classmates and teachers. St. Timothy School students and faculty come from a wide variety of racial, ethnic, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our diversity enriches our students scholastic experience, and helps each child discover his or her own uniqueness and infinite worth as a human being ? and that of their peers and teachers.
