Walney Montessori Home
Hi parents, welcome to Walney Montessori Home, our home daycare and Montessori school in Chantilly! I have 24 years of experience in child care and... hold degrees in Psychology and Microbiology, as well as a Montessori diploma from Association Montessori international (AMI). I have the experience of working in various Montessori schools and daycares, and it has been my dream for many years after these wonderful experiences to open up a Montessori program of my own.
Now that I have been able to open Walney Montessori Home, I look forward to providing the community with great child care services and creating a secure and academic environment for the children. The Montessori method of education is a refined form of theories presented by Jean Piaget, Jerome Burner, Erik Erickson and such developmental psychologists. Our progressive program is available in three age groups:
Beginners (infants through 18 months old)
At this age children have primary needs of security, exploration and search for identity. They are going through many sensitive periods of development including sensitivity towards order, language learning and tiny things in the environment etc. we promote communication through one to one interactions and play experiences
that help them grow physically, verbally, cognitively, socially and emotionally. Various interactive activities like story telling, singing songs, music and physical movements are important part of our curriculum.
Pre-primary (18 months to 3 years old)
Children from 18 months to 3 years of age enter Walney Montessori Home in pre-primary class. They experience social interaction and learn about complex rules and respect of others. At this stage we stress on development of senses as well as on the physical, social and emotional development. Children are introduced to self-correcting exercises of perceptual development and practical life activities of cultural adaptation. These exercises create habits of concentration, attention and order.
Play and Learning Experiences
We provide a perfect blend of Montessori and daycare education at this age. The day care material includes nesting toys, puppets, Toss box, a large number of fun and learning puzzles, sound and sight bottles, picture cards, clothing frame boards, rhythm instruments, matching game, and soap paint etc. A separate list of Montessori equipment is attached with information.
Primary and Kindergarten (3 to 6 years old)
The primary and kindergarten class focuses on the strong organizational skills as well as the acquisition of basic mathematical concepts and language (enrichment of vocabulary, grammar), geography, history, culture, art and music etc. Children at this stage go through different sensitive periods of development and are very active at their style of learning.
Play and Learning Experiences
The prepared environment of our Montessori class room is decorated with material for indirect and direct preparation of Geography, Science, Biology, Art, Music and Cultural subjects. The skill emphasis in the class is on Mathematics, reading and writing. Basic concepts of symbols, quantity, ten, teens, hundreds, thousands etc are given at an early level. More complex rules of mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division are introduced to a child upon mastery over fundamental concepts. Vocabulary, I spy, Snake and memory games are few examples of learning strategies in our class room.
MONTESSORI PARAMETERS
1. In our class room children are organized in multi-age groupings which allows individualized rates and learning interactions between younger and older children.
2. Children choose their own work and they are allowed to work independently at their own pace. As children progress and complete a self-correction exercise, they develop confidence in their ability to understand. Freedom of choice, independence, self-correction and confidence lead to self-discipline.
3. The Montessori class room is a prepared environment where teacher is facilitator guiding a child in learning of new skills and concepts. She shows the use of objects and presents Montessori exercises to children. The prepared environment of our class room contains
In our classrooms, each child follows a natural progression through various categories of learning. Social games, finger play, gross motor movement and other gym activities are an integral part of our Montessori environment. Our Montessori curriculum is as follows:
Practical Life Skills
The material necessary to carry out the Exercises of Practical Life. The practical life exercises (washing, sweeping, pouring, polishing, pouring, sponging, dusting etc ) are beginning activities which help the child develop coordination, a sense of order, concentration and good working habits.
Sensorial
The sensorial apparatus is used for development and refinement of visual, olfactory, tactile, auditory and stereo Gnostic senses. The sensorial exercises not only help a child in discrimination of the concepts of color, size, dimension, form, sound, taste etc; they also detect defects in any sense organ at an early age. Sensorial teaching materials are self-correcting materials and are designed to be aesthetically pleasing and fun to work with.
Mathematical Development
Basic concepts of Math are given through concrete and self-correcting materials. Introduction of quantity and symbols from 1-10 are given and than progressively 1-1000 are introduced. Later, basic operations are presented. Over 62 concrete materials are direct and indirect preparation of Math.
