Greenbelt Nursery School
Greenbelt Nursery School offers nursery school classes for children ages two, three, and four as well as extended care programs. We are in session from September through early June. We offer full-day educational programs. Extended care is open to children ages 3 and 4 who are enrolled in our nursery school classes. Children age 2 may also be accepted on a trial basis if their families and our staff agree that they are ready for it. Lunch Bunch is available from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The children play outdoors in our secure playground (indoors in inclement weather) for about half an hour. Then they have lunch. Children bring their lunches with them. We serve milk. Enrichment is available from 11:30 am to 4 pm or from 11:30 am to 6 pm. After lunch, the children rest on their cots, lights out. Some children nap, some don't. All have quiet time. Afterwards, we engage the children in a variety of activities and projects, in the classroom and - except in inclement weather - outdoors. We serve a snack. Each family is required to take on one job in the operation of the school. Many hands make light work! Families can assist with publicity, planning, scheduling, events, shopping, record keeping, and many other jobs. Committee responsibilities are determined and selected at the June membership meeting. Families can help staff the classrooms on a rotating basis, ensuring a high adult-to-child ratio. This is a wonderful opportunity to see your child interact at School, to get to know your child's classmates, and to participate in the basic function of the School. Classroom shifts are about three hours. Families who choose not to volunteer in the classrooms pay a higher tuition rate. For all classes, full co-op means that you will work two or three times a month depending on class size and number of classes per month. Limited co-op, all classes, means you'll work once a month. Non co-op means that you are not obligated to volunteer in the classroom. We limit the number of non co-oping families to one third of the class.

While providing developmentally appropriate activites where the minds of young children will be motivated and nourished, while their creative abilities are stimulated. Hours of Operation RSFCC’s hours of operation are 6:30am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday. All child/ren are to arrive at RSFCC no later than 9:00a.m with the exception of doctor’s appointments. Please be courteous and inform us of absences and lateness. Waiting for children to arrive disrupts the program and disturbs the atmosphere. Here at RSFCC we take the well being of the child/ren seriously and a well-adjusted child/ren lends to a pleasant environment. Daily schedule Below is a sample schedule of a typical day at Rizzing Starrz. This schedule serves as a tool to help parents who may be interested in simply stopping by to hang out with us for a while. There are times that we will deviate from the schedule simply because the children have their own agenda for the day. While having a structured day is a great way to teach the children several important skills, we at Rizzing Starrz are not so rigid that we don’t allow room for adjustment. Rizzing Starrz offers full and part-time programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. We believe that we provide the best care for children of all ages and recommend that you visit our center for a tour to see what we have to offer. We encourage you to contact us to schedule a visit at which time rates will be discussed. Our program balances teacher-planned and child-initiated learning, emphasizing responsiveness to children’s strengths, interests, needs, and learning styles using the nationally-known, play-based Creative Curriculum. This curriculum emphasizes four main goals for growth and development. They are Social/Emotional, Physical, Cognitive and Language development. We carefully plan and maintain balance between freedom and guidance, group and individual activities, and active and quiet learning for each child. Children happily attain the varied social, emotional, and academic skills needed for Kindergarten and beyond. Field trips are an added bonus to our curriculum as they serve to allow the children to explore beyond the confines of their familiar surroundings. Our field trips take us all over the Washington Metropolitan Area and you can be sure that it involves culture, the arts and music. Some of the places we visit are The Smithsonian Institute’s Discovery Theater, Glen Echo Park, Cox Farm, Martin Luther King Swimming Center and Reston Farm Park. We even learn a little etiquette as we will often take a ride on our transit system and visit a local restaurant. The children really enjoy a break in the regular routine and will often ask to go on a field trip. Permissions slips are required and in some cases a fee as well.
