Llave del Mundo Bilingual Child Development Home
Llave del Mundo Bilingual Child Development Home is a home-based child care and preschool program in Washington, DC. The child care facility is located near Kalorama Park in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, DC (off Columbia Rd NW and Calvert St NW, near the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Metro Station and the Smithsonian National Zoological Park). PHILOSOPHY: As a child care provider, I have a strong belief that ALL children are diverse and unique individuals who have strengths and are naturally curious. Children need to be provided with an organized, child-directed learning environment that emphasizes mutual respect, fun, discovery, literacy and addresses sensory needs. In a supportive environment, I will provide the conditions for all children to construct knowledge, focusing on the learning process rather than the end product. Program Philosophy is based on principles of child development supporting the child to gain a sense of self-worth by helping them develop at their own individual pace while learning basic skills feeling confident, secure enough to explore and grow in a stimulating educational and social environment. CURRICULUM: I incorporate a preschool curriculum into our daily activities to support infants and toddlers to have a nurturing, consistent, and loving environment, and to prepare older children for school. I offer individual activities that are specifically designed to help the child grow and develop based on his/her strengths and weaknesses; addressing all areas of development. I use The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool and Montessori curriculum that includes new research and theories from the field of early childhood education into a practical, easy-to-understand approach to working with children and their families. It is a comprehensive curriculum with a clear organizational structure and a particular focus on interest areas. MISSION: I am a dedicated and supportive provider and the mission of my program is to: - Continue to grow professionally in order to better serve children and families. - Provide appropriate services to ALL children. - Utilize strengths and challenge weaknesses. - Foster self-esteem while celebrating children’s successes. - Establish a fun and safe learning environment. - Enable children to make discoveries and realize their potential. - Support and build a trusting relationship with parents, children, and other professionals in my community. GOALS: - To offer early childhood care services in a way that is specifically designed by my knowledge in early childhood education, according to the family’s priorities, beliefs, and needs of the child. - To develop a nurturing relationship with each child and their family. - To provide play opportunities for all children who are enrolled in my program. - To provide support and help for families as they seek out resources to meet their child’s needs. To help children: - Develop effective communication skills; - Develop the ability to choose and follow through on personally meaningful experiences; - Develop large and small muscles through play-based activities; - By demonstrating through interaction with the developmentally appropriate environment and through self-initiated and teacher-facilitated activities, increasing levels of conceptual and cognitive development; - By demonstrating an awareness of daily routine; - Develop a level of independence in self-care skills; - Develop problem-solving strategies; - Develop aesthetic appreciation as they explore the developmentally appropriate environment around them

National Child Research Center

Every child has a story… and this is where the story begins. Founded in 1928, the National Child Research Center is the oldest continuously... operating preschool in the District of Columbia. In the beginning, the study of children’s behavior was anything but commonplace. A unique coordination of interests in child study and parent education led representatives of eight organizations, which had been working independently, to pool their interests and create a laboratory for child study. Under a three-year grant from the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial, NCRC (then known as the Washington Child Research Center) began the first of its more than 80 years. In 1931, when the grant ended, parents faced with losing their children’s school raised $32,500 in the midst of the Depression to purchase a home at 3209 Highland Place and to run NCRC as an independent preschool. NCRC’s early mission was almost identical to that of today: outstanding faculty; professional development; implementation of appropriate, cutting-edge research; inclusion of children with special needs; a curriculum rooted in early childhood development; and parent education. Throughout its history, the school has welcomed parents as partners by supporting, educating, and engaging parents and families through school events, classroom activities, conferences, specialist resources, and ongoing communication. From the beginning, NCRC has been committed to serving children with special needs and to creating a diverse and respectful community. NCRC has always been a leader in early childhood education. To give just one example from the 1960s, NCRC led the way in training Head Start teachers in DC. Today, NCRC continues to share its long-standing model of a play-based preschool program with others in the field, to collaborate with early childhood educators (both locally and across the country), and to advocate for all children. Inspired by the playfulness of young children and tempered by the wisdom and experience of 80 years, NCRC continues to live its mission and to contribute to the field of early childhood education through its work with children, families, and the community at large. Curriculum Play-Based Learning Our highly skilled and experienced teachers plan curriculum based on the interests and developmental stages of the children in the class. Activities reflect the five domains of early childhood learning: social-emotional, physical, communication, self-help, and cognitive. Enrichment Programs Children have the opportunity each day to participate in a class taught by specialists, with opportunities to experience music, motor, and library. Music teachers provide children with an understanding of the foundations of music and integrate movement, songs, rhythm, instruments, chants, dance, and poetry. An experienced movement teacher helps children practice their motor skills such as hopping, balancing, climbing, and more. Magical library experiences are linked to the classroom curricula, often introducing authors or illustrators.

Caterpillar Preschool

Caterpillar Preschool Through both Spanish and French language immersion programs, children naturally develop or enhance their target language by... engaging in age appropriate, authentic, hands on learning experiences. Caterpillar Preschool strives to provide a successful learning experience for both children and their families by creating a community of dedicated individuals who value communication, respect, and growth. We come from all walks of life, forming a culturally rich environment with varying perspectives and backgrounds. We have a diverse group of families. Several of our families are English speakers! We also have children who may have one or both parents who are bilingual or native speakers. Some children are themselves native French or Spanish speakers. Our mission is to provide a safe, developmentally appropriate, inclusive environment for preschool and school age children. Our focus is to provide an education experience which promotes each child's social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. City Gate/Caterpillar Preschool will provide child care that meets the needs of each child and family through collaborative staff, child and parents involvement. City Gate/Caterpillar prides itself in meeting the individual needs of each child, while providing quality, reliable and safe child care. City Gate/Caterpillar Preschool is dedicated to providing a warm and loving family environment for children. With our small size we are able to give quality, individualized care to families at affordable prices. As we view City Gate/Caterpillar Preschool as a family, the importance of family bonds cannot be understood; siblings are encouraged to interact with one another, and we want everyone involved; children, parents and staff alike; to feel like they are part of our extended family. We follow the creative curriculum, a research based guide designed specifically for Early Childhood. The framework of the Creative Curriculum takes into consideration how children learn and the physical environment in which learning takes place. In addition, our teachers bring their own unique contributions from their years of experience in teaching. You will notice Montessori, Waldorf and Reggio Emilia inspired ideas intermingled within the classrooms. Incorporating our monthly themes into the learning process enhances our program.

Communikids Preschool

Our mission at CommuniKids is to prepare young children to become the global citizens of tomorrow by creating a joyful, playful, and nurturing... environment that immerses students in a second language. Our program strives to instill the disposition, knowledge, and skills required to succeed in a highly interconnected world. At CommuniKids, we prepare young children to become the global citizens of tomorrow while immersing them in a second language. We offer our NAEYC-accredited preschool, which immerses children in a second language and new culture, while also preparing them for kindergarten. Preschool is available for children from age 2 1/2 – age 5. Our DC and Loudoun County, VA locations offer preschool in only Spanish. Our Falls Church location offers preschool in Spanish and French. Our Richmond, VA location offers preschool in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. Our afterschool Language Enrichment Program offers classes for children from age 18 months up to age 8, in order to further practice their language skills in either Spanish, French, Chinese, or Arabic. These classes provide developmentally-appropriate ways for children to learn the new language, including: singing, dancing, playing, and, for the school-age students, reading and writing as well. Our summer camps offer summer fun while learning about nature, animals, and plants. All of our summer camps offer Spanish-language immersion, and some of our locations offer French or Mandarin, as well. CommuniKids began as a small, parent-run cooperative preschool in 2003 and has developed into the DC Metro area’s premier children’s language center and preschool. At the very beginning, three of our top executives were inspired by the idea of having their own children develop into multilingual, multicultural global citizens. They had their own children enrolled in their new school, and have been thrilled to watch their children grow into the global, multilingual young people they see today. Seeing these extraordinary linguistic and cultural developments in their own children, they hoped to be able to do the same for other families as well. As a team, in 2005, we began broadening our scope into afterschool programs for children. We established our preschool program in 2009 in both Falls Church, VA and Washington, DC. In the spring of 2015, we opened a new preschool center in Richmond, VA and in the summer of the same year, we opened another center in Loudoun County, VA. CommuniKids was the area’s first language center to offer classes for children ages 18 months to 8 years of age in Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Arabic, and is currently the only children’s language center to offer a full-time, Spanish and French-immersion preschool in the greater Washington area. We are proud of our story and are very excited about its future chapters.
